Evo's

Been thinking about getting one of these for a while prob an 8 or 9 won't be every day car ideally around 400 bhp mark ( just to keep it Lively enough to keep me interested ) , who has had one ? What are they like? What's the model to go for? Also the things to look out for ( a do's and dont's list )

Much love

MR RS Doug or the 9 GT, both come with the stronger Diff, they're great cars, very punchy around the 400-420 bhp mark too and not too much needed to get them there, if your budget can stretch opt for the 9 GT but they're getting harder to find and prices are rising, if you do buy one the only person I'd PERSONALLY use to maintain it is Sheady, he knows them inside out bud.

Main thing to look for is Rust on them now believe it or not  they do go underneath, then usually stuff with any performance car, clutch wear, brakes, accident damage, AYC, they suffer stone chips quite badly, service history etc etc.

I had an Evo 8 and would definitely recommend you test drive one properly before buying, as I didn't get on with it at all. I found it a little boring having come from a RWD Cossie. It was good as a point-to-point car, but not particularly exciting.

Brillant cars. All depends on what your budget is. Good ones are getting hard to find.

9 Gt was my favourite of the Evo's I had, easy to get to 400 bhp with these.
Will be hard to find one though and Expect to pay £15k or more for a clean standard one today.

i had a 9 GT and hated it, didn't seem to be anything special and was nothing like the hype of them.

I looked at these and just found the trim boring !!! Yeah they are fast as I had one on my bumper the other day . the rs4 started to gain again at about 80 .

I also had a Subaru wrx sti . bloody punchie and very fast but never felt comfy in it and the build quality isn't the best .

As said above RUST , under rear spoiler and tailgate, rear arches and bottoms of the doors . Just like a saff

I had a French blue jdm rs2 Evo 7, lovely car, uses slot of fuel but that's expected, handled like f#ck, I would def gave another, as said already, rusty tailgates and rear arches, and imported ones don't have any under seal so are a few very rust looking undersides!

I do like the Evo 8s and 9s.

8 MR rs if you can find one or 9 GT or 9 RS all import btw
Both command strong money, not cheap to run or modify but will see of alot of other cars.
If these are out of budget the fq mr cars are not a bad choice.
Stage 1 is 400bhp easily achieveble with the 80 series turbo, exhaust, fuel pump and map.

Look out for rust in boot floor, boot spoiler meets boot, doors, chassis legs etc

Good cars, just hard to find good examples. MLR will be the best place for info.

Bin the VIII off, thats one of the worst of them all. IX is a pretty car but VII looks great. But none have the looks of the 2nd generation of Lancer Evolutions. Personally i'd be looking for a tidy V or VI, maybe leaning towards a TME if I was planning on keep it for some time.
