How much power can a mk5 rs2000 make???
#2
I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
I built 1 that made 250ish bhp, but it wasnt easy and it definately wasnt cheap,
They're not realy bad old engines,
But if your looking for decent numbers then its best to start with something else IMO
The only reason i built that 1 was because it was for a formula 2000 open wheeled race car, and needed to run either that or a pinto for the race series, and we decided to go down the i4 route
But i think we ended up with over £10k in the engine all in

We found that they tuned upto around 170-180 quite easy, then upto 200 got a bit more expensive and needs the engine opened up and built,
Then the rest was only realya ny use on a race car as it has very poor torque under around 4000rpm due to wild cams

I remember Kenny@MSD had a blown one of these many moons ago, was a good little conversion if I remember, there may still be a build thread unless it was before the big crash?

Reckon for a fast road engine you'd be ok with 180odd bhp which shouldn't be too hard to achieve, otherwise go for a different motor, or forced induction (but I think more is known about zetec turbos there too). Its only really worth trying to get every last horsepower out of them if you are using it for competition and the regs dictate your engine choices.
