Default Vxr v St?

I've got 7k to spend on a motor and I have my hart set on a st3, for my money I'm looking around 2007 model or older, with around 70k+
I have noticed that I can purchase a 58 or newer vxr with less that 60k miles, why have they dropped so much In price? Do they have a lot of problems?

Also I'm hearing the St are prone to cracked liners, is this true?

Can't seem to ale my mind up.
Pretty sure the St suffers from oilfield filter housing problems.

It does, but that's a pretty cheap fix with the updated item.

The vxr wont hold value like the st as thats reflected already but the probably the vxr will be more economical so its swings and roundabouts really

Have a drive if you can and see which you prefer

I found the ST to be too thirsty for a daily and with a penchent for eating tyres, but if its a weekend car that may not bother you

Vxr vs St is a difficult one, but from.my experiences with vxr's I would stay away from them, gearbox's are made of chocolate turbos arent any much better, the standard map isn't great and the fuel pumps tend to give.up causing cyl3 to have issues like melted pistons etc z20let/h engines are also common for the valve stem seals for giving up and I wouldn't have said they're fuel economy is great either my friend Drives his quite lightly round town and is lucky.to see.an average of 24mpg or over. Also working on them can be fairly awkward and a simple job can quickly turn into removing this that the other and half the car before you get to it..

I'm not biased to either ford or Vauxhal as I love both just saying imo the Vauxhals have a fair few problems with all of them they don't tend to last long before another problem shows.it's head either.. And although I suppose itl be the same across the board but if your buying one for middle to low end of the price range your going to get one that's been abused and not looked after too well

i'll throw a spanner in the works, megane 225 turbo sport cup/f1? alot cheaper than all of the above and a bit of a hoot to drive.
ive got an inferno orange 225, had a remap so running 260hp ish, brembo's as standard, 18" wheels, 6 speed box. Only negative in terms of performance is the turbo runs out of puff top end of rev range
