PassionFord Post Whore!!
Theres a thread on rs246.com where some one is twin turboing a Rs4 . No room means a lot of work . the turbos are placed down by the spot lights and the exhaust system etc is just a maze . As for heat good luck lol
Should see 700/800 bhp when done .

Im not sure , but the 3.0t v6 also packs a punch .
Around town my Rs4 is just like any other A4 tbh . But on a lane or open road the car comes alive and just keeps going and going to the point where it has bigger balls than me .
Ill be changing a few bits this summer so ill keep you posted .

Wahay!! I've lost my Virginity!!
I had a 2006 b7 s4 avant they are fantastic and get it into 3rd,4th Gear plus they do not stop pulling rs4 have another 70 bhp so they must move lol s4 can have cam chain tensioner issues same as the 3.0 tdi, engine out job £3k bill but the rs4 doesn't have that issue so anything else with a car like an rs4 why moan about running costs?? you can't drink champagne on lemonade money!!

The S4 doesn't have the FSI system, so doesn't suffer from the same problems and the engine can be modified quite easily to produce 380 bhp, a gain of 40bhp with a modified inlet manifold (JHMotorsport - A US Company that ship loads of tuning equipment over to the UK), a full de-cat and full Milltek system plus a JHMotorsports remap will put you very close to 380bhp, I've had mine on two sets of rollers and with the above she produced 378 on Surrey Rolling Road and 379 on JKM's........ so pretty accurate figures and a gain of 35bhp.
Here's my engine rebuild - Which was due to the Timing Chain Tensioner Failure, I didn't have to rebuild the top end, but I did while the engine was out, seemed silly not too, so I replaced valve seals and cleaned up the ports, on top of a full timing chain and tensioner kit from JHM Motorsports......... I bought the car with these issues, so got it at a bargain price.
Both great cars.

Six tensioners and three timing chains, two variable timing adjuster, but once you've got the engine out it makes it worthwhile to replace a load of other bits at the same time (Crank Seals, Clutch & Dual Mass Flywheel which is 1k, head gaskets, valve seals......... the list goes on) but once it's done, it's good for 100k of hard driving.
They really are a very under rated car, perform about the same as a good stage 3 Cossie, but have a huge torque band/power curve.

How do the RS4's compare to the merc C63's? Both cars are on my short list to buy next year, I love my current SL55 but I would like to replace it with something little more practical. Of course the RS is 4wd Quattro and cheaper but is there anything else it has going for it. I love the look of the C63's so that wins it for me in looks stake!!

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
Got to say I didn't think much of the RS4 when I test drove one.
Felt like the 4x4 sapped a lot power and didn't really feel that fast, it did sound great though.
I then settled on a V10 M5, more toys felt a fair bit faster and was cheaper!.
I also like the look of the C63 amg's, but arnt the auto boxes abit slow on the changes ( like a normal auto rather than dsg/ dct etc).

Ah cool glad I wasn't the only one not overly impressed with the performance of them, may have to try them again.... The auto boxes aren't overly bad but as you say I don't think they have any fancy trickery in them, the exhaust note does it got me though!!

The M5 is inline with RS6 not the RS4 . And the M5 should be faster as its a 5.0 v10 . I looked at one and spoke to a guy I know who owns one and said fuel wise there shocking .
Mercs are also great cars , I just don't like autos and avoided them as there very tail happy and I needed something safe lol
All great cars

I classed them as a price bracket as I wanted the best car for my money.
The M5 seemed to do everything abit better for my needs and was faster and as said cheaper, so for me it was a no brainer.
The RS4 is a nice car with the buckets, the one I looked at was red and it looked great, it just lacked something I felt.
The M5 was fine on fuel, I was averaging 18mpg to work or 24mpg on the motorway.
They always seem worse as they have a small capacity fuel tank.
The C63's sound great, I think it would be a toss up between one of these or a V8 M3.
For grin factor the merc probably wins but reading reviews from people that have owned both the M3 was a better all round package.

Thats exactly what I get with my S4, and the RS4 does about the same.
Personally : I think you made the right decision going with the M5, i've driven both and came to the same conclusion, but both great cars, depends which suits you best.

Those Audis are, of course, very beautiful and desirable cars. But surely (this is PassionFord) you can't compare the owning of a modern-day hi-tech German road-rocket (which to most people just looks like any other four-door Audi) to a classic 90's Cosworth or similar?
And yes, if I was prepared to take the pain in the pocket I would have a red one in a flash (but the estate of course).

Pain in the pocket ? there now cheaper to buy than a cosworth and if both cars were serviced and looked after as they should be then there on the same level .
Ive owned my RS4 now for 10 months and its cost me £148 for 4 x pads all round and £270 for new Pirelli front tyres . service is due in 6000 miles which is £320 .
I agree with some they don't feel fast but that is really incorrect as its caught me out many times , 120 mph feels like 60 .
Ive had E46 m3s try with no joy and a 420bhp Evo stayed on my bumper . You have to remember the RS4 is 1.7 ton . £500 will see a stage 2 tune at MRC which takes it to just over the 450bhp and releases 1st 2nd 3rd gear which as standard are restricted .
Once that's done there on a different level .
All good cars at the end of the day ,its just down to what you want and need the car for .
