having to change the clocks in my mk3 xr3i. mines has a genuine 57k and the second hand set has 98k, is there a way i can change the new ones to 57k?

Yes, when mk3 Xr3's were current (1 to 10 years old) I would guess more than 50% were clocked so it's not difficult - just make sure you do it right so all the digits still line up nicely.

( I had 3 mk3 XR3i back in the day and only one was not clocked)

I would simply swap the counter from the original clocks to the doner set,
20 minutes, to do that , or adjust the 96k counter by hand after dismantling them
