i worked for Fiat for 4 years as parts supervisor i am not a mechanic but used to deal with these alot as they were fairly new at the time, that model punto did get problems with ECU's and Fiat had such a demand that they started doing exchange ones, if i remember rightly there is also a sensor on the inlet manifold which is a common fault (i cant remember what it does!) these cars were generally not bad for what they were but we did have a red one which kept coming back with mis-fires and holding back they changed everything incudign the wireloom the guy sold it in the end but must have been a friday afternoon car,,, with regards the the tappet sound on the cinquecento that was another common fault and i am suprised they did not cure it as revised tappets were made for these which were kept in tsock by most dealers,,, i do still have contact with fiat mechanics i will try and ask for you,, hope this is of some help?
i would agree and suggest putting it back to standard i personally dont think messing about with these is a good idea, Escort Rst's are pretty good modified these are not in my opinion!

forgot to mention that head gasket is also a common problem as previously mentioned,,
Lewis there is many interesting stories when you have worked at a FIAT main dealer,,, i know fiats arent the best cars but i worked for Mercedes for 4 years and i tell you what i would rather buy a FIAT that a Merc, the older ones are ok 1980.s ones , the current models are crap and not reliable

Ok people i think i know whats wrong with it!
The compression test was ok i had really good readings from all cylinders however
i thought i'd take the intercooler to inlet manifold hose off & it was full of oil!
So guess the turbo's fooked
Anyone got one at all?
