the 1.6 se in the zetec-s is a big turd as far as tuning is concerned, I've got one!, seen loadsa claimed figures but nothing any good proven, thay always seem to bung out around 115-120 on a RR with a chip filter and exhaust, have a fairly weak bottom end as standard and the inlet, TB set up is shat as well, standard valves and head are good for 200bhp with TB's and Cams according to SHAWSPEED.COM but I doubt the bottom end would last long without any mods.
Have seen a TB'd one with super 1600 TB's and Pectel T2 and it was only pumping out 180bhp and cost £8k. Also seen a 1700 lump with TB's pushing out over 200bhp but that was also daft money ( also the VCT has to be junked if you tune the 1.7 very much ). If you after tuning a 1.7 PUMABUILD.CO.UK are the peeps to ask
Go for a 1.8 zetec if I were you much better bottom end and better potential IMO

don't know any myself but i owned a fiesta zetec-s for a while and browsed around www.zsoc.com a few times. seems the done thing was the puma engine conversion and if you were real lucky to find one a racing puma engine conversion. the standard fiesta engine is only about 100bhp and even with the van-aaken turbo conversion makes about 140bhp albeit with standard internals. have heard pumaspeed are good for parts and engine sourcing. i would imagine unless you are lucky enough to get hold of a racing puma lump then a standard puma lump with decent cams and throttle bodies would see you somewhere near 150-160bhp.

I'd deffo go K series then
Theres fook all parts available to bolt on to the small block zetec's, you be struggling for an inlet manifold and fuel rail etc. I'd deffo think K series as theres loads out there for those.

Thats what Tony ( NutSRus on here I think ) runs in his RS1600i rally car. Saw it at one of our RR days a while back, made about 170-180bhp IIRC and was totally mental. Awesome car. He's a dead nice guy too, i'm sure he wouldn't mind you picking his brains

If you want reliability stick a Corsa engine in there Rad. Little bit of head work, DTA & TB's and you will have that sort of figure all day long. I looked at these when building mine but just couldn't bring myself to do it as it weighed that little bit more.
There is then the option of a Toyota 4AGE engine, again a little heavier but will give a good solid power figure on TB's straight out of the box.
Put the money in your other car if you want my advice (not that you ain't already ), you will get far better return. If you want a nippy run around just buy one ready done.
MEF (Martin) has just bolted on a set of TB's and completely re-wired in a new DTA box onto a mates Suzuki Swift and with just a basic remap it gained just under 30bhp. For a small light car with 130 odd horses it feels nippy enough. Plenty of that sort of stuff about

Yep
The engine is the easy bit lol, you then obviously have to think about what box to use, how it all mates together, what sort of shaft to hub components your gonna use, and possibly do a lot of re-fabrication work on the mini. For example TB's will need a different fuel tank and pump set up making etc etc.... its alot of work.
Not impossible but time consuming and expensive
