IMO the bmw is a good cheap option.
Mondeo - tdci does come with issues and always smoke.
Audi - never had one.

It's your call.

Never had the BM but I hear good things about them...

Had a Mondeo ST Tdci and was a great car but had bother with rear brakes and boost hose splitting.

A4 1.9 TDi - got one now and it's best car I've had, does everything well and brilliant on diesel

Ive got and E39 540i msport - I love it.

So much car for the money.

They suffer from cooling system issues mainly from what ive been reading, if you can find one where most of the system is replaced you are heading in the right direction.

Yes and the 1.9 is a great all rounder Many on here have had/still have them. My old man bout A4 avant estate 2.4-2.5tdi hit was in great shape he had it remapped and got great power gains and better fuel consumption but when you get a remap they ask what you would like and tell you whats available

I am a huge Audi fan but I would go with the BMW. The rear legroom on all A4's is rubbish. This is exasperated if the driver has long legs. Most of my friends joke that I prurchased the smallest big car possible.
