Fiesta Mk6 questions

Hello,

a mate is looking for a new car as a daily and now he is looking for a Fiesta Mk6.
So my question is now what to look for? I think body wise they seem pretty solid, at least my ST does. But what about the engines? Are there some to avoid? Are they belt or chain? I dont really know anything about the modern engines. And I think it has be a petrol.

Thanks

Alex

Petrols are belt driven, check for water ingress in the spark plug wells, this is caused by either leaking washer jets, or leaking core plugs. Apart form that they are pretty good, Never hear of too many horror stories about them.

They can leak coolant from the thermostat housings ( just to the right of the alternator)
Check spare wheel well for water as they are prone to leak from the lights or spoiler if fitted. I would try pick up a zetec s as there cheap enough now and pretty nippy.

Thanks!

Didnt know they were all belt driven. Zetec S seems a good choice, but I think they where only 2 door. Had to be a 4 door as he had to put the kids in the back.

So no major issues with the engines!

st's are chain driven tho

They don't seem to suffer from rust either.

Thats a good choice because in the 3 door i had both the seat handles broke, leaving my mates climbing over the front seat.
It went to 135k on the clock with no major issues apart from the water in the spark plugs (which also knackered the cat). It had 2 exhausts in 12 years and the clutch was only done at around 125k. I don't think the lower arms were ever changed. One spring snapped one day whislt it was aprked up , but they cost peanuts.
