Do I / Don't I ?

Just after some advice....

mk4 fiesta .... 2.0 zetec turbo.

coolant temps are fine when moving, but if I get stuck in any traffic the under bonnet temps are so high that it makes the coolant temp rise quickly. It's all such a squeeze in there that I think any little bits to get the hot air out may help so I've got some bonnet vents. Obviously they will sit flush when done, but just wanted some opinions before I cut the bonnet!!

Thanks, Matt

don't:cry::cry::cry: and lose the mirrors

Glenn_ Jul 12, 2014 08:18 PM

Just put a switch inside the car for the radiator fan.

Churtz Jul 12, 2014 08:41 PM

My fan runs constant anyway.....but it's one of them cheap slimline eBay ones. Maybe I'll upgrade that to kenlowe or revotec and monitor it

Low temp stat & a turbo cooler? Maybe raise the bonnet a few mm at the back to let the hot air out?

Engine is suffering from embarrassment at pulling around angel eyes and M3-style mirrors... change them, watch temps return to normal.

Cheers,
Grant

It's a no from me.

Churtz Jul 12, 2014 09:21 PM

Thanks for the input. The Angel eyes are turd but were cheaper than standard ones after I had a little kiss with a Peugeot. I quite like the mirrors.... maybe that's just me ;)

I'll try a different fan and stat maybe.

Just a thought, maybe you could fit a ZS bumper and use the foglight holes for ducting some added air.

You just need a decent cooling system. small vents wont be the only fix.

Thanks, Matt

Personally in a fiesta you've got to be careful, go balls out or subtle sleeper as bolting random bits on can look tosh, mirrors/aerials and shite lights belong in the skip no matter how cheap they are.
Any way of chopping the bumper out and getting a larger radiator/fan setup in, yes chuck on some vents but be careful, had some louves cut into my car bonnet of my old 205 track car which looked ok but still on a hot day didn't do a great deal to help.

Like that garage

Churtz Jul 16, 2014 06:41 PM

I like the zetec s bumper idea..will have a look into that.

And yeah the garage at the end of my garden is a nice touch :)

Position the vents in line with the edge of the front grill towards the rear of the bonnet. Then use a deflector plate on the front grill to direct air over the top of the engine this will cause the hot air to be pulled away from the engine bay and out of your vents.
Mk1 FRS owners have been doing this for some time and seen a good reduction in temps.

I would also advise a low temp stat and alloy radiator.
