Question.. Starting a new built CVH.
Just got everything bolted back together on my engine, turned her over with fuel pump fuse removed to get oil pumped round.
Filled it up with oil with the rocker off and poured all round
Now when we started it, the tappets were sounding nasty, was runninng just very loud.
The engine was running when we picked it up, but hasn't had oil in there for about 4-5 months.. We changed main gaskets etc but nothing else.
Any advice guys...

The engine is a working one that I bought.. has piper cam etc in there already..
The only thing I changed from when I picked it up was head gasket, sump gasket etc... didn't do anything with the pistons etc.
Will go out and let her run for a while..

A replacement set of followers is peanuts compared to the damage you will cause to the cam with warn or faulty followers. The followers won't drain just because it's been stood.
I find if you soak them over night in a jar of oil this helps tremendously on start up as they will free up very quickly

It's quite possible that the piper cam quoted was installed on the original followers hence they are showing signs of wear. Sure, if the original cam is running on the original followers then replace it using a 'cam kit' as in standard practise.

replace both,if tappets are worn you can bet cams worn too
there both makin contact with each other so cam will be bedded to tappets and vice versa, most people just change tappets but really both should be changed together, just preference but
