Waterless coolant

What's the SP with these ?

I'm going to do a coolant change in the S1, and given the lack of mileage she does I'm thinking that using waterless could be better rather than water based, but haven't heard much about them.

Pro's and con's ?

It's over priced shit. Don't waste your money on it like I did.

chettle 17-04-2014 05:48 PM

My mate ran it in his Evo powered 205, boiled it several times. I wouldnt bother with it!

whizzisat114 17-04-2014 05:58 PM

use good old distilled water 50/50 with antifreeze

caprizetec170 17-04-2014 06:19 PM

I know several lads lately that switched from standard coolant to evans waterless coolant and swear by it no more pressure build up or overheating

STeve 17-04-2014 06:26 PM

my uncle runs WC in his dolomite sprint which now NEVER overheats and thats running OE rad and fan too and he drives it plenty too

little bram 17-04-2014 08:26 PM

Very good stuff does what it says. My car runs hot but now it runs hot without the pressure. I can take the header tank cap off with the fans in and the coolant doesn't move.

Conflicting views !

Maybe need to do a bit more digging around....cheers though guys !

STeve 17-04-2014 09:05 PM

I think a common sense approach needs to be applied to this stuff, if you have issues of a car overheating then theres a fault so rectify that first and then use WC as its not a cure for overheating, but if you have the budget to install this then I see no reason not to

Mr S1 18-04-2014 07:52 AM

That's my view Steve - no leaks or anything, so I might give it a go

Chopshop85 18-04-2014 10:34 AM

Another advantage is it won't rust any internals.

Brendan 18-04-2014 11:06 AM

I am interested in in from the no corrosion point of view! as the CVH block can rust! this is suppost to stop all of that! also boiling point is 180 not 100!

marky_g 18-04-2014 11:42 AM

Never though of using deionised water

fordrallycar 18-04-2014 12:15 PM

I use it in the Cosworth with no problems at all :-)

Rs1 19-04-2014 07:56 PM

Don't forget to use the prep fluid.

Alg1k 19-04-2014 09:33 PM

It you don't use the prep fluid ( unless its a new dry build ) you will still have water in the system and you WILL boil it,
Awesome stuff to use,

the boiling point of water is not 100 if it's in a pressurised system - that's the point

i would rather have something that is going to blow of a load of steam if there's a problem rather than continuing to rise in temperature up to 180 as i don't think your block and head would thank you for that.

gaz01 20-04-2014 01:45 PM

didn't edd china use it in one of there builds on wheeler dealers cant remember what car it was should give you a good clue how to go about using it

Paul_RS 20-04-2014 03:11 PM

It also runs a fair few degrees hotter than water. Personally I wouldn't bother with it. It's also near enough £200 by the time you buy the prep fluid etc.
