10K+ Poster!!
personally I'd go for a cossy, my everyday car is a 2l 16v nova properly setup (suspension, brakes and lsd etc..) and it will out accelerate a type r and focus rs, handling is certianly as good and obviously costs next to nothing compared to either of those two, a cossy however has got far more potential and if your looking for proper power then you will need 4wd or if u want to be sideways then you want rwd,
not dissing fwd fords but they just dont interest me, too much money in my opinion for not that much performance, the Focus RS does look great though and is certainly a much nicer car than the type R and offcourse its not jap crap
good luck on whatever u get, I'm sure whatever you buy it will still be a bloody nice car and maybe a bit more practical than my nova lol

If I'm not mistaken Kev H wasnt Kev H going on about how much better and faster a CTR was than a FRS a year or so ago? How times change! - But common sense prevails!
