A good saff is so hard to find now BUT dig deep and you might find a alright one for 5k but unlikely find a great one ! Add another 1.5k and the worl will open up alot wider
Evos at 5k put you into the 5-6 market and they can be more rotten than any ford lol so check rear chassis rails sills inner wings boot pan boxs are genuinely strong but wear badly on the syncros rear ayc pumps are always dodgy to

Find a dealer and put down 5k and get 3-5k on finance? Thats something i would do but not everyone likes finance.
Should get warranty then (3 month and buy more?)
As for fiesta, the ST is a great car but performance from that to a cossie/evo is disappointing. I love mine but dont think ill get another due to performance over fuel.

they are what they are and 5k one wont be great
Just recently got my sons saff for 6k was advertised for 7.5k and it is mint and low miles but the bloke who was selling was in the shit money wise so we beat the price down ! On the build up to buying this we looked at 10 saffs all above 6k and they were breakers but advertised as mint cars fact is shitters are now 4k-5k

i've seen loads of the v6 tt s4's up for 5k or less that people I know have bought and they are not that bad if you know what to look for. They are better built and more reliable than people think.

It just wouldn't buy much performance tho unfortunately warren, to make an St150 get decent performance it needs a good bit of cash thrown at it, and as said I would nt be looking at performance cars on that budget if it's a daily which is as I interpret the op

I still stand by what i said that you'll need 3-5k put aside just incase things go wrong, that is the trouble a lot of the time, folks buy a 5k Sapph that seems all fine, 2-3 weeks later, head gasket goes, diff, box pops, turbo goes etc, we all know it happens, so have money aside too would be my best tip. I know as I've had lots of a Evos and Cossies

You'l spend 5k in fuel driving round the country and not find a good one of either at that budget, especially a cossie. I spent 6 months looking for one with a 10-15k budget and could not find anything worth buying, after a particulary annoying 6 hour trip to look at one that was nothing like as described and the owner seemed like a con man i decided to leave it and brought an rs4 a couple of weeks later

Im sure 5k would get you a nice example evo 5 or even a 6, get on MLR. I sold my evo 6 18 month's ago with 23k miles on it, garaged from new, like brand new for £7000. Good usable cars out there wid some nice mods for your budget, people out there saying better cars are more expensive but thats why they are still for sale.

I dont expect to get a mint cossie for 5k and I have 2 other cars to use so wont b a daily either, jus something I can make into something nice and use occasionally. I can go to 6k if need be.

Pete I see Kevin put that up and I know why so what does that make yours worth, Kevins worth? Even mine which has never see a welder. And a s for trying to insure these types of cars within the club imo is a joke, As the powers that be like Totally std over modified versions yet there valuations are miles apart! Std cars being worth more yet if they both were a total loss the modified car will cost more to replace
