EsCos wont start - No Starter & No Fuel Pump
I was out helping a friend with his EsCos today and after a 7 year rebuild the car won't start.
Car is a 93 big turbo model. She drove into the lock up 7 years ago and has had a rebuilt engine put in.
When the ignition is turned on the fuel pump doesnt prime and if you go for start the starter doesnt make any attempt to turn.
We have pulled the fusebox down and it has a 2003 build date so unlikely to be the cause. There are no alarms or immobilisers apart from what Ford may have put there.
We bridged the contacts at the fuel pump relay and were able to get the pump to turn on and also checked the starter so both components are working as they should.
Things to note
- Interior lights aren't working
- Red light on the clock illuminates and stays lit - but the car doesnt have PATS?
- inertia switch is working correctly
- Starter and pump are fine.
- Car drove in and nothing electrical has been changed during the rebuild so shouldnt be anything major
Anybody any ideas what way to go next?

Cheers James, Looks to be a good resource so I can start working with that
Yeah i was a bit surprised by that too but Stephen (the owner) says it hasnt got it. Cant remember seeing the key to check for a chip as I only started fault find after ignition was pulled down
and was removed before he bought it so was used daily without it before it was taken off the road.

Yea, vecta is the immob.
Mine also has an alarm that is standard fit - its connected with the clock led. Can't tell you if that immobilises too I'm sorry.

Cheers mate. The red light on the clock staying on had me thinking that it could be an alarm or immobiliser but I've been assured there is no alarm on the car as it was removed before he purchased it. I'll chase up though and dig deeper
Glenn, yes ignition lights come on but illumination on dials and speedo head aren't working

Have a look at the fuse box cover and all the markings and there should be a symbol that looks like a padlock. Pull the fuse and see what happens. 3 times I've done it for mates with mk5 escorts but never a cossie. 1 rs2000 ank a xr3i so I'm thinking the theory could be the same. Worth a try

Have you tried double locking then unlocking again (with the key)? That will reset the ford alarm.
Had that before when the windscreen company locked it with the key instead of the fob!!
The dash lights wont work without the dimmer plugged in, if you have dropped the fuse box I am assuming the cover with the switch in is off??

I only had the same thought myself when I got into the car to come home from work today. Problem is we wont get to the car til Saturday to know if it works.
Dimmer switch is a good shout.
Cheers for all the potential leads.
