Powerful cars on crap tyres?!?
Just grabbed my lunch and walked past a guy in the queue for the petrol station. No idea why I looked really but spotted that he had Marshall tyres on the front. Then I noticed the car was a Vectra VXR!
Would think that chassis we need all the help it could get with it's tyres.
Seems a fair few people just slap any old crap on their car as it's cheap

Also I think peeps not in the know get a "I've a real powerful car trip" when they spin up the Tyres in first second third not knowing it's the china plastic not gripping and not 200 bhp out of the k&n they fitted .
Must admit I thought I had 500 brake in my first 3dr as it'd spin up to four in the cold or damp if pushed until I saw the elevens I left outside my gaff one day, about an inch wide as the car was lowered and cambered to death....lol
Fitted coilove rears and car almost never spun up again but flung me forward as supposed to happen....

dunno how crap and cheep tge Marshall tyres are, but does seem like some people just don't care and feel a tyre is a tyre and that's it.
You can pay a tiny amount more and get decent supposedly mid range rated tyres that are as good if not better than Premium makes
recently fitted some avon zz5's to replace some pirelle p zeros, and they are a lot better and Ł60 less per tyre too.

there's so many foreign branded tyres that i've never ever heard of that get offered when i got to my local tyre shops - i tell them to get real and give me a branded tyre.

I had wooden tyres on the escos. Quite liked a bit of wheelspin - better than breaking transmission parts.
Also, if they let go on a bend I won't be going so fast, so might not end up quite so far into the field

JB was the king of this.
500+ bhp, and used to run around on whatever scraps of tyres he could blag from the local tyre places, he said he didnt want grip as it would break his diff.
Was hilarious how often his saph was sideways even in the higher gears.

It always amazed me at what skinny tyres the cossie had on it. Even m3s of that era had decent size tyres on them, good or bad branded you want as much width as possible

It amazes me that people scrimp on the only point of contact your car has with the road!

And if it's just used for the shopping run....sure cheap tyres are fine. The owner probably couldnt tell the difference anyway

The garage that sold me my Audi A4 Qauttro fitted 4 new 18" tyres..... Goodrides theyre called, fuck me they are noisey and shit but balls to it its 4wd and winters looming so not fitting something better now had it been a 2wd version i think it would be bloody awful to drive with the 170 tdi engine, my 130 tdi bora a few years ago was bad enough at wheelspin from the lights if you wanted a quick getaway etc

never understand the mentality of buying chinese linglong ditch-finders no matter how much poke your car's got. There's only 1 thing that keeps you on the road, why the fuck would you risk it for the sake of a few quid?!

Testing the future
i don't really care how crap tyres are at laying down the power - but i am concerned with how well they will stop and the 2 things normally go hand in hand and when the time comes to avoid an accident, the extra Ł100 is worth it otherwise you'd be paying out an insurance excess

I put a set of goodrides on the saph (only a twincam 8v) a few years back, think they lasted 100 miles before it rained, I turned back and parcked up - car wouldnt drive straight on them... spinning up in every gear
Then put some Michelins on - what a difference
Never bought cheap since..

Of course...insurance cry when you modify your car for better performance, the police hassle you like fuck, etc etc
yet not a word is said when millions of motorists "modify" their cars by fitting wan-king tyres to their cars, also modifying it's performance.
And fitting wan-ker brake discs and pads to their cars...again modifying it's performance.
Lots of replacement parts are of obscene quality....yet not a word is said.
Although the 16's on my van are Chinese Mohawks, and really cant fault them at all. Good levels of grip went and dry, and they give good mileage.. On my 3rd set of them now. Had Hankook's and Federals before that, and will be sticking with the Mohawks
Could have got Triangles....but seriously, who the fuck calls a tyre Triangle !!!!

Got a fiesta st with standard Pirelli p-zero Nero on it.
Worst tyres I have ever used.
Had 2 sets of Toyo's, proxes 4's were ok, although very soft in sidewall, and the t1r's were much better.
Currently have Yoko Parada spec 2's which are alright. Quite liking them.
Had Goodyear eagle f1's on an xr2i years back and hated them. They spun up like fuck at the first hint of rain. Really don't get the love for them??
If I change tyres, I always get a full new set. I don't mind paying a few quid either. I'd never fit a lingling or whatever. And yeah, I agree with what someone said above, it's not always the handling, but the stopping distances that are the most important for day to day driving.
My sister got caught out when an audi q7 stopped ahead. From 40-0 in no space at all. She ended up rear ending it in her Polo, probably due to worse brakes, but mainly due to the shocking tyres.
