I've always found that anything but crazy specced Pirellis are utter dogshit I'd rather have Chinese plastic tyres, at least they're cheap!

............
If something you can't control happens such as a kid running in front of you then under any given driving style you will stop faster and with more control with better tyres

....I'd have had the same opinion as you before I tried that exact combo out. My E46 M3 had 4 M3-specific Continentals all round when I bought it. When the time came to replace the rears, a guy at work said his mate had a new pair of correct sized 19" Nangkangs sitting that I could have for 40 quid a pop... so I thought fuck it, I'll get some epic skids with them and had them fitted.
They're just as good in the dry as the continentals were, never let me down during a very hard drive with a dozen or so imprezas through the Scottish countryside/mountain roads. They're slightly more lairy in wet with DSC off... but not remotely dangerous. I've been seriously impressed by them. Don't get me wrong, I'll likely put continentals on when they're dead, but only because I'm quite anal about tyres matching and it'll need rears replaced again before fronts.
Poor Glennyboy!!
Cheers,
Grant
