Default 05 mondeo 130 tdci grinding noise

Hi all, can anyone help diagnosing a noise from my mondeo. She has 150k miles and drives great, pulls very hard and smooth and doesn't smoke at all so she has signs of a car who's been we'll looked after. Over the last few months a grinding noise has developed which seems to be coming from the drivers front wheel area. The noise is random in the sense that it happens at any speed and for no particular reason, sometimes it lasts a second sometimes for about 5 seconds. I have checked all the hubs and suspension and bearings and all is good, put new discs and pads on today as they were well gone but not made a change. I have noticed as I approach 70mph a humming vibration does begin to come through the car.

What's ya thoughts?

Is it related to engine speed? Crank pulleys have a rubber middle that perish causing play in the pulley. Could be your issue, it's right behind the OSF wheel too.

if mondeo's use a similar setup to the focus it could be a driveshaft support bearing which is about half way along the O/S driveshaft, I had a grinding noise coming from the drivers side so replaced the whole driveshaft
