Why would it be built with water cooling if it was not required ?

nope it is not necessary on the t series
we never ran it on any of the race cars
it is to allow hot shut downs associated with road use and mr knob head lol

NOT pluming in the water pipes could cause a shorter life span of the turbo(I'll look it up and post some info).

have a read yourself it's YOUR choice but I'd tend to go with people in the know!

Thanks for the concern Alvyn, Tony's word is good enough for me.. He is mr T4!

Your link I feel is aimed at much more modern turbos- GT and GTX are mentioned...

I don't get why you're having issues with the banjos leaking, you must be doing something wrong for it to be a problem with the right washers and the correct torque mine have never leaked, only time I have ever seen leaks is with improper assembly, rusty surfaces and shit corroded washers.

I had 2 pipes snap at the banjo on my turbo, so binned the cooling off years ago with absolutely NO issues at all.
Let the car cool as anyone in the know does and there fine.

Who's a lucky boy then.. It's leaking where the pipe meets the fitting
For once its not user error

In hindsight I shouldn't post what an awesome potitive experience I've had, next time I take the car out I bet it leaks....

Do you have any kind of washers in there with the banjo, there should be, I usually run one either side and make sure all surfaces are spotless, the last time I fitted a turbo I couldn't get the right sized ones locally anywhere, but I stumbled accross a weber fuel injection place who gave me some that I used and they were perfect.

It's good to know that the cooling is not completely required though as long as you're careful.

Lol mate, yep.. Nice shiny washer each side and heat/glycol resistant sealant. It's not the seal with the bolt thats the issue this time its the actual pipe.
I'm guessing it's probably because the turbo has been on and off a good few times in the last 18months and the metal has been fatigued with the constant fitting/removal..
