Default Cleaning carbon from pistons?

I'm fitting a new head gasket and want to clean the tops of my pistons, what does everyone use to do this?

I'm changing the management so hope for it to run alot cleaner

Hyper clean and a scratch pad. Wd40 or petrol will do he same trick and an old ring broke in half to clean the ring gaps.

Thinners then a wire wheel for a drill. Worked a treat for me. Came up like new.

Nitromors paint remover works well for this.

They are still in the block, will it be ok to use this liquids?

It will have the oil drained before starting it anyway

Couldn't you use like wynns engine flush or the like? Meant to break down carbon? Or is that toilet?! Lol

so they say but has anyone removed their head to check

mine has alot of carbon build up from poor running old ecu so looking to have it all fresh and clean with a good mapp on the car.

plus my head has been all rebuilt and cleaned ect so it makes sense

If the pistons are still in the block just leave them alone or you will end up dumping a lot if shit down the sides of the pistons and getting stuck in the ring lands.

Leave them alone unless there is some very good reason you need to touch them.

so just leave them alone then?

im tempted to remove them at the min to fit steel rods while its in bits and get a new gearbox built at the same time

Domestos drain cleaner and a toilet brush down the bores.

Gets the shit stains off the toilet so should work a treat

Well that little bit of carbon wasnt posing any problems...and in a short space of time it will be back again.

If you are removing the pistons from the block, then by all means yes they can be cleaned properly. If you are not, I'd just leave them well alone.
