I'm fitting a new head gasket and want to clean the tops of my pistons, what does everyone use to do this?

Hyper clean and a scratch pad. Wd40 or petrol will do he same trick and an old ring broke in half to clean the ring gaps.

If the pistons are still in the block just leave them alone or you will end up dumping a lot if shit down the sides of the pistons and getting stuck in the ring lands.
Leave them alone unless there is some very good reason you need to touch them.

Well that little bit of carbon wasnt posing any problems...and in a short space of time it will be back again.
If you are removing the pistons from the block, then by all means yes they can be cleaned properly. If you are not, I'd just leave them well alone.
