My car got hit today, what do i do?
Hi all,
Stopped off at McDonald's today with a mate, while stationary waiting to park a young bird reverses straight into the side of car...
She apologises and we exchange details, and she mentions her dad would want to fix it, apparently a mechanic. Preferably i want to go through insurance, but will i be able to claim as it happened with a McDonald's Car park? Is it not private property? Or will i be ok?
Any help or advice welcome
Cheers, Ed.

i had a knock a few years back where a guy pulled out of a junction and i hit him. he tried saying it was my fault lol. so i called police and they werent interested if no one was hurt. they said they wont take sides or point blame or take a statement and said its up to insurance to decide blame. i won the case though

what you should do when you phone the police is say you think you can smell alchohol on the other drivers breath. then theyll be out sharp....

Or say they were seen travelling at 32mph in a 30 limit.
Phone insurance and get them to sort it. Her dad being a mechanic doesn't mean he can sort your door and paint it to a standard you'll be happy with.

Cheers for advice all. Will call her insurance company this morning and get the ball rolling. Now I'm wondering if it will get repaired or written off? Doesn't look that bad, but I've heard what insurance company's can be like

Should be ok mate, same happened to my Gf few months ago, make sure she admitted its her fault, and your insurance company won't even need to get involved. Her insurance company will just deal with it.

Tell her you won't bother claiming as long as she puts out, then claim anyway

Typical bird response, "my dads a mechanic so he'll fix it".
I haven't met any mechanics that do bodywork....women just assume it's a car and mechanics will do it.
You deffo need to cover your arse mate and either call insurance right away to report it, or call her house/dad and get a written agreement and or cash in hand to fix it, the more time goes by YOU are opening yourself to get BUMMED in the ass by complete denial of everything.

wouldnt suprise me if her dad isn't even a mechanic, probably just pumper her tyres up a few times and checked her oil and water, next thing... hes a mechanic!!
as if you would trust someone you know nothing about to do a repair like that

My girlfriends KA '01 was written off with same damage to the passenger side but with the wing and rear 1/4 all dented n scraped up.. I could fit my fist between the door and roof. In fairness the Beemer is worth more I'd have thought lol.

Must be worse than it looks to have bent that door top our surely! Have you had the door open and looked at what other damage has been caused?
You could get a quote and then ask them for the cash - wouldn't use her dad lol! - but then your insurance company wont be too pleased about trying to sort it out and not informing them. And I doubt very much they will agree to cough up the cash, call your insurance, pass her details over and leave it at that, maybe mention the possbility of cctv at mc'ds.

Right OK small update.
Had a phone call earlier from the birds old man, i agreed for him to have a look and see what he will offer. Turns out her dad isn't a mechanic , and knows next to fuck all about cars. He then started looking at it, and then offered to buy me a second silver door and he said he would pay to have it fitted if i knew of a local garage that would do it So basically, he thinks just whack a silver door on it and call it a day!
I don't think so matey, i'm ringing her insurance company as we speak... lol

I went with my own insurance but didnt make a claim until the other insurer admitted liability, then they paid repair centre direct. This meant I avoided my excess and didnt make a claim on my own policy. Went very smoothly they even supplied the hire car.

Just be careful with involving insurers. Don't forget that they are running the biggest scam in history. When renewing your policy they will ask you weather you have been involved in an accident, fault or not. Regardless of weather it is your fault it will affect your premium.
And anyway, you haven't told us weather you bummed it or not yet
