Default Finding out who owns a car?

Hello and good morning to you all!

So I would like to find out who's owns a car that's been standing for about 2 years in a pub car park.

The owner of the pub has no idea so I've been told but yet still sits there.

I've got the reg and it tells me that it's not been taxed for 2 years so hoping to grab and bargain or find a shitter here.

Any help please.

Cheers.

If the pub landlord says you can have it take it as its been on his land for that long he technically owns it if he had wheel clampers on his carpark they would have taken it! There is no legal way of finding out, you can ask police or contact dvla but all that will happen is they will contact registered keeper! Look at it this way if your on good terms with pub landlord then get him to write up a letter or you do it and sign it as its been on his land so long he can charge them rent!

spot on advice above as my cousin got his hands on a sweet late classic range rover vogue, left in a pub carpark for 14 months and the landlord had it clamped it for 6 months which was a massive bill if the owner ever came back and 4 x what the car was worth, landlord gave him a letter stating the above and he sent off for the V5, this was 2 years ago and he still has it now

Can you not fill in a V888 form or get the landlord to fill in a V888/2 form http://www.dft.gov.uk/dvla/forms/onlineforms.aspx

Does it not show the old keeprs address on the V5?
If you apply for the V5, they should contact the owner to see if there is a dispute, if they don't reply they issue the document to you. if you do get the V5 in your name, possibly you could then try to contact the old owner yourself after that.
I realise that is not legal ownership but its a way of moving forward.

when you apply for a V5 without the document they contact last reg keeper first to verify whats what and if he blanks it they then send toy the new V5 after a few weeks more waiting, just get proof from landlord and pics of where car has been stood etc, even pop into the local police station and tell them what your planning to do

a freind of mine found a old race mini which had been dumped, they towed it back to his, spoke to a police friend of theres who said they will put the word out that its been found but if no one gets intouch in 2weeks or so its yours.. i cannot quite remember what they did about the v5 though, but i think once youve towed it you could just apply for a new one.. As remember a v5 isnt a legal document of ownership, its just a document so the dvla have someone to fine/tax etc

it was something to that affect i carnt quite remember as it was a while ago but i think my mate still has the mini.

what car is it? suprising how people just leave stuff for so long.. It must be one hell of a pub to forget you drove there!

finders keepers!

got to the post offive and get the form to apply for the log book, the dvla will write to the registered keeper and state that you are applying for the log book.

if the dvla dont hear back they will issue you with the log book

So i found the guy who owned the car!

He wants £600 for the car BUT... It dont go into gear very well when cold... The engine makes a weird ticking sound all of a sudden and from about 4 people say he cant drive for shit and always tried to give it the big one down the street then fuck the gear change up so it crunched! Also its been modded so ive been told to massive power but never set up right so could have more power

Oh and it was a drug car for runs to London and back with no tax and mot...

So ima give this one a miss as you can tell, i would rather buy a working one with tax and mot for £1500-2000 than this surprise car!

Cheers for all the help though on this one!

offer £300 and see what he says!

if its for a track only car and not going to be used on the road does it matter the history?

if it is properly fucked then you will get more than £300 back in parts so no loss.

as for the gearbox, they can be very temperamental on the inpreza, you can do the 'uncle scottys cocktail' which is 1l litre of redline heavy shockproof gear oil, 1 litre of penzoil syncromesh gear oil and 1.5l of castrol syntrax limited slip oil

but that lot is about £85.

will cost about £400 to have it mapped properly, so if its got a lot of trick bits on it then it could be a good buy!

Yeah could be worth a bid at £300 i guess, i dont know the bloke and never seen him but been told he is abit of a twat so could all go well lol.

Nice to know what has been done to it, no good if its a air filter and exhaust and then other people think "yeah its had alot done, goes faster than any other car"

I wont see anyone till Thursday so ill find out abit more then.

Cheers
