Default Scotland road trip - looking for ideas

Hiya guys, haven't been here for a while.

Basically, I'm planning a road trip across Scotland for the summer. Therefore I'm looking for good routes, interesting places to visit, etc. Good B&Bs and pubs would also be helpful.

I'll have 10 days and a rental car, starting from Edinburgh airport...

Any input will be much appreciated! CheeRS!

cant really advise of where to go as i've never been myself, plenty of scottish folk on here can point you in the right direction

maybe tell us what your interests are, e.g plenty of history/castles etc in scotland

For places to stay & eat, look at www.tripadvisor.co.uk for some reviews

Ferry to Northern Ireland is a quick ferry ride away too, just something to keep in mind if you are struggling to fill all 10 days in Scotland. Just don't go to England, they are all coooooonts

Just after a few relaxed days with the missus really. I'll only have a poxy shitbox rental car but I'd still love to drive some nice roads or mountain passes.

That's exactly the kind of advice I've been looking for. Thanks

How much is the ferry roughly and how much is the average double room in a NI bed and breakfast or hotel?

Scotland is quite expensive from what I've seen so far... 70 pounds per night seems to be the average for a very basic accomodation.

Ferry is Ł50 or car then Ł16 per person each way that's from Scrabster at the top end of Scotland so you can travel right up through everything else to get here, then you could get the other ferry back to Aberdeen.

Loads of history here Stone Age, Bronze Age all that type of stuff also loads of war stuff

Have alook on this site

Aye loads of speed cameras on that road now, everyone was wiping out racing. Those days are long gone and the 9 minute club is dead lol. It would be the 5/6 minute club nowadays though lol.

tbh i would say there is loads of history in most parts of scotland , i went on holiday to strathpether (inverness way lol) and it was great nice views no matter where you go , where i was it is a very good central part to go about the north parts as you only need to drive an 1-2 hours and you can be in most places , but north is much nicer than the central belt imo not as built up ... so far

Look up website road to the isles for some really good B and B's up the west coast past Fort William.

One of the best places on the west coast for beaches / scenery and roads
Is Arisaig just south of Mallaig.

Take one day for a drive from Arisaig up to Applecross peninsula and make sure you go up over the mountain pass via loch Carron. The pass is called something like Achna Bara it's a great road down to Applecross then do a quick lap of the peninsula = great fun even in a sh1t slow car just don't lift off !

What I'd do is drive from edinburger to Lochgilphead in argyll which takes in Loch Lomond and the rest & be thankful with amazing roads, also I know of a B&B with good rates in Lochgilphead

From there Oban is only another 37 miles north and then Fort William is about an hour at most past Oban, beautiful scenery & amazing roads. From Balachullish - just before Fort William - you could go through Glen Coe which is another amazing road and the scenery is also second to none!

If Glen Coe doesn't tickle your fancy you could do the Applecross mountain pass and stay in a wigwam at Applecross very cheap but comfortable. I had the pass planned a few years ago but never got round to doing it unfortunately.

best advice - stay indoors. the fucking midgies will eat you alive in summer.

as said, up the west side is brilliant, but so is the area around the cairngorms. scotland is brilliant.

you get a very good meal in the pub in applecross, but it will be busy.
