Default civic type r or golf 4motion???

just after a cheep but not bad looking run around as the the wifes away to start work 20miles away as the child goes to school this year....budget about £3.5k

i like the civic type r or a golf 4 motion (just cos it looks smart with bbs lm's)

if none of the above what would you have? reliability is key...dont do lying on the floor no more lol

I'd go with a golf but not the 4 motion. Get a pd130 gttdi, couple of my mates have them and they both get 50+mpg and they're remapped to 165-170bhp. And you're right about the wheels too they both running 18in bbs's and look the nuts

The bigger turbo makes them quite laggy round town. Also if you was to modify it, after you remap them they have a tendency to blow the plastic boost pipes off and you'd also need an uprated clutch which is quite expensive. One of the lads I work with bought a pd150 and after doing alot of research on modding them he said he wish he'd of bought the pd130

Don't rate the 4motions at all...too heavy, too juicy and not even that quick! I'd get a diesel version!

Civic is a much better car if your after performance!

Love the CTR and had a few and in terms of driving fun then I would go for the CTR, but, 20 miles away (40 miles round trip) I would be swayed towards the diesel golf for fuel cost reasons.

If you aren't fussed about the fuel, then CTR but a decent one with good service history and buy on condition rather than trying to buy the newest for the money, lots and LOTS of poor examples about.

i really fancey making a tdi 4motion mk4.

oh, and i don't rate the 2.8 4motion that much, it's not that quick. but i dont like the ctr so would get the golf anyway.
