its were people literally shave (Mill) tread off of the tyre, Im still to learn why people do it, take a quick look on demon tweeks and it will show you how its done

If like me you have to run a controlled tyre in your race series you are not able to run semi slicks etc
I have to use an Avon tyre which has a classic profile and tread pattern, Now when these tyres are new they have alot of movement in the tread blocks which is ideal for when rainingbut not so in the dry. So to eliminate this you shave off half the tread to cut out the block movement and this will help dtop the tyre from over heating etc

hello mate my fathering law races in hot rod oval races and they come across the same probs with tyre regs and wot not, they use big wood rasp's with the car jacked up and in gear with sumone blipping the throttle you can shave your tread. http://www.diy.com/nav/fix/handtools...?skuId=9294662

You can also shave camber on to a tyre. Knock of flat spots. A shaved tire , even if you've only knocked a bit of apart work will retain temperature more consistently.

Presumably you only need to do it once, then you can use the part-worn tyres you were using in the wet for dry racing?

Correct mate so long as the tyres used for wet racing were still in good condition
