Well the mk1 and mk2 xr2's have better/matching 0-60 times as the current zetec-s so back in the 80's they'd have probably been pretty fast compared to other hatches,
Escort xr3's are pretty much the same performance wise,
Sierra xr4's and xr4x4's would've been seen as pretty quick, like the Capri 2.8i's
Performance and looks wise they were pretty good, I'd say they still are today aswell

mk1 and mk2 xr2s are fantastic fun to drive. great handling and drive like go-karts. as standard they are nippy but not mega fast around 9 to 10 seconds 0-60 but with a few simple mods my mk2 xr2 was running 98bhp at the wheels and did a 0-60 at ford fair of 8.16 seconds. they do feel quicker than they are tho. had 2 sierra xr4x4s for a bit and they handle very well due to being 4 wheel drive and didnt go too bad wouldnt say they were fast tho. the v6 engines sounded awesome tho especially with my mk1 2.8 having a janspeed exhaust. not driven a mk3 xr3/i but owned a mk4 xr3i and wasnt too impressed after driving a mk2 xr2 for 3 years. steering wasnt as responsive and wasnt as nippy as the xr2. be rude not to include a few pics lol

Quite a few people on here slag them of totally but i think the XR2's and MK3 XR3i were great cars. OK performance may not have been as good as say a Pug 205 1.6 or 1.9 and the Escort may have lagged behind an Astra GTE but they were still great cars to own. Also if you wanted a bit more ooommmph you could upgrade to the RS Turbo.

having a mid life crisis
Good cars fro what they was okay they might not have set the world alight, but capable cars in their day
Plus the XR;s have more racing pedigree than a S2

I've had everything from a MK1 XR2 right through to a Fiesta ZS. The ZS was 'nice' but lacked something.
As previously said, the MK2 XR2 is alot of fun and with some tweeks, can be a weapon.

I love mk2xr2's had a standard one 13 yr ago and currently have a red early spec factory looking one with the rst lump in, both turbo and standard put huge smiles on my face every time, gets alot of attention on the road because everybody had one in the day and they are now none existant on the roads today. would never sell this one simple raw drivers car, the sensation of driving is not dulled out by driver aids like todays cars IMO

get one soon while they are cheap cant loose, since my first mk2 xr2 ive had xr3i cab, cav GSI, scooby, 1.8sri corsa , redtop corsa GSi, cavalier 4x4 turbo, and a few dailys, but still had a constant nagging in my head to get another xr2, 4 yr later no regrets, that classic xr2 CVH exhaust note

My old man has owned all the XR range at some point and I would say probably least 10 of each variant lol.I have only owned a TT 2.8 4x4 a mk3i and a mk4.I would love another mk3 and would have one at the drop of a hat.Never keen on the fiesta or any mk4 escort in any guise tbh
