Default Wastegate.

Would the wastegate being open abit all the time cause the thrust bearing to wear with a 1k of a new build running low psi (11)???

It could do, excessive thrust wear is normally caused by too much boost, a leaking/partially open wastegate would cause the turbo to overspeed, this can damage the impellers but will also put excessive wear on things.
If the turbo has been rebuilt by a proper company then they often set the actuator when the unit is reassembled.
If your not happy then send it to Turbosystems, Tony will get it sorted for you at a fair price.

No, the wastegate being permanently open will limit turbo speed and acceleration and thus slow down potential wear.

I suspect your thinking about a leaking wastegate "Actuator" Matt.

As above, wastegate been open would just make the car slow. Wastegate closed could cause damage.

Stu, if the wastegate is stuck open then the turbo will overwork as its trying to create a pressure but most of the air it flows go's straight down the exhaust, hence the turbo will have to do more work to try to generate the same pressure.
A leaking actuator would keep the wastegate shut causing over boost.

it wont fella because the gas will be bypassing the exhaust wheel instead of spinning it.

It wouldnt mate. A turbochargers workrate is directly related to the air flow through its turbine wheel, so if you limit this airflow, you limit the work done, and that is the sole reason for the wastegates existance, to limit flow and thus work. It truly is as simple as that.

Thanks for all your relpys guys. It seems that I might of been lied to by my rebuilder for warranty work.

Looks like when I get it back I should send it to Tony at Turbosystems as after reading a few post about him, he seems honest and very fair.

Thanks Mark.
