Default YB cylinder head alternatives

Anyone actually tried using the alternatives?

There seams to be a volvo conversion knocking about in maybe Norway/Sweden.
Looks to be a lot of work from the snippets ive read.

Anyone seen a full guide of what to do.

YB heads are beggining to get very rare for a good one.

I need a new cylinder head , but dont want to buy one to then have it delivered and find out its a large lump of scrap ally.
The quality of head being sold these days () is very poor.

Aside from me trying to find one, have it tested and deck height being correct, the price people are asking is now geting silly.

by the time you have bought a used second hand head, test/skim/guides/valve seats/faces your looking at over £1k.

Ive bought cylinder head for YB for £100 many years ago

So, is the volvo conversion a) viable, b)worthwhile, c) cost effective?

your thoughts/comments/links please.

Regards
Mark

I know that, but bare, £2k plus vat, by the time you have valved/guides/seats/springs your going to be over £3k.

Ive bought engines complete running for half that lol - oh hindsight - i should have collected YB's back in the days.

Ive even given serious thought about changing engines completely.

its big in the states on thhere sierras, i carnt remember which volvo head they use though and they seem to get big power aswell

engine wise depends if you want to keep 4wd or not as the size of the escos engine is a limiting factor, rwd skys the limit 4wd is a pain

well the yb and pinto are excatly the same in oil and water design, the 205 blocks are the same as pinto and as youknow the 4wd is only thicker castings same oil and water ways lol

the lima is just the name of a pinto block in usa

only difference is they were 2.3 so unsure what the compression ratio is, in the link to pf theres a head on ebay already converted

The lima block has to be a lot bigger as there is no way a std 2.0 pinto would bore or line to 96mm bore size

Volvo head fits Lima block not pinto.

I'd go for a 2jze supra Lump.

Pinto and Lima engines are completely different, nothing is interchangeable.

Was gonna say the same thing..... The "Folvo" Ford Block/Volvo Head conversion is pricey if You can't do the welding/machine work yourself as You have to come up with custom intake and exhaust manifolds... the price of cams, sprockets, tensioners, and all the other nessesary bits adds up to a small fortune .... then You have to run megasquirt or another programmable ECU, which means forever tuning it......

There are a few who have done it.... and done it reliably.... there are more in the process of doing the swap.. It can make HUGE power gains over the stock 8 valve head...... Almost everyone wishes Ford had done a dohc 16v head for the Lima motors.....
