Focus RS Mk1 Gearbox Pictures?
Does anyone have any pictures of the gear selector mechanism bolted to the top of the focus RS mk1 gearbox?
I will be running the shift tower and cables from the mk1 frs and I was wondering if I would need to buy the actual gear selector as well.
Thanks!

I am actually already subscribed to your thread The pictures I need are too small on your thread and they are hard to distinguish with the black paint. Could you post up some larger pictures? Build looks great by the way. I will also post up some pics of what I need.

What I am wondering is if the Gear Selector mechanism that is mounted to the top of the FRS Gearbox is the same as the standard MTX75. I know that the actual shift tower with gear knob and shift cables are different.

i hate jacking these old threads but its the easiest as i wont have to waste time explaining myself so i hope you all dont mind!
i have transplanted my MTX75 with LSD to my FRS MK1 shell from the T250 Focus....BUT no matter how i connect cables or whatever adjustment...i cannot select gears!!! it seems neutral is up and down WTF is wrong lol??
Gearbox is fully functional...car it came from was fully working low mileage daily so i kno 100% working , has brand new paddle clutch , cylinder etc.....
when i connect the 'white' cable it only connects in gear and NOT in neutral.....but cannot get it out of gear at ll (tried starting it etc)
clutch has been bled properly....
one more thing the spring inside the white cap where it holds on to the bracket is loose but i can still screw it together - does this mean the cables are effed??
Anyone be kind enough to explain the correct procedure for connecting these up?
got soooo pissed off threw one of my axle stands but it landed perfectly and i couldn't even muster the skill to smash something thats how bad things went today LOL
my last option is to rip out gear cables from RS and just wack in my T230 short shifter cables....man im getting so pissed of with fucking about with cars....specially since my op i just dont have the energy i just wanna get in my ca and effing drive it looool
cheers people any help always appreciated.

you need to use the cables and shifter that are compatible with the selector on top of the gearbox or it won't work, i had exactly the same problem when i tried to use a 2.0 petrol mtx75 and 1.8 diesel shifter and cables, they wouldn't work together so had to buy the 2.0 petrol cables and shifter to make it work.

I've just tonight hooked up my focus rs gearbox in my escort mk4 gear stick and linkage. I've used a tdci focus gearstick and cables. Seems absolutely fine will prob just need slight adjustment once the engine is running.
Edit to add my connections at the gearbox are a bit different to the pics earlier in the thread.

I've had two brackets from Fords so far, they both held the cables at completely the wrong angle to connect onto the selector mechanism! Got a third on order now so fingers crossed!

It looks like my frs box has the shift mechanism from a tdci focus. So I got the gear stick, cables and the gearbox bracket all from the same car.

I think im sorted, can get all gears except reverse, but I expect I will be able to get that once the engine is running again. Can't get oil in the box yet as haven't got the drain plug

Not sure if this helps but difficulty or tightness to select gears can be caused but how the cables are run. If they have too many bends or are too tight the gears will be really tough to select. We had an issue on my brothers puma where you would miss gear selection whilst driving and it was all down to the cable route.
Hope that helps.

For reference, this is what my box/cable/selector looks like:
This is the gear lever in mine (I have since made some mounts and bolted it down a bit more solidly!):
A friend of mine had some gear selection troubles when he had put a Focus gearbox in a MK5 Escort. He ended up crushing the rubber mounts where the gear lever bolts into the car. The excess play in them was causing problems.
Sadly I did buy the gearbox, cables and lever separately, so I have no idea if they're the right ones. I wouldn't have thought the other cable design would fit though.

Nearside or offside? Wouldn't think the offside long shaft could pop out as the bearing carrier should keep it in. Is the nearside shafts circlip ok?

is happening with two different sets of shafts (standard foci and RS) - but no i havent tried a new spring...apart from splines does anthing else need to line up or does the driveshaft just push in?

It should just push in and then the spring clip should effectively lock it into place. It can be a bit of a twat to get the shaft in far enough for the spring clip to engage though. When I fitted mine, it took a bit of force to get it to pop into place.
It may be worth trying a new clip. Also, though this is unlikely given that it's a Focus and using Focus parts, it might be worth checking the drive shaft plunge. So fit the shaft, but not the hub retaining nut. Then, with the suspension assembled, try pushing the shaft through the hub to fully compress the inner tripod joint. I don't know what the plunge figures are for a Focus to be honest but, if you loosen the inner boot, it should show you if the driveshaft looks stretched at all.

ok so what i did was remove the gator , tap in the end of the shaft , refit gator (no grease lost) and test drive. Drove to Guildford and back to collect some rear hubs from ST breaker so far so good no more gearbox oil leaking out. thank you all for the replies.....
