Default Idling/Rev Sticking Issues

2.0 Blacktop Zetec, standard.

Basically it was idling really low, at around 500 - 750rpm then after a while of sitting say eating food or chilling in the car with the engine running the battery light would began to flicker then it would try stalling, give it a blip of the throttle and it would cure itself.

I took the air assembly off cleaned the throttle body, remove the position sensor from the side, cleaned all the black gunk off it, so the butterfly/flap is now white plastic instead of black, and put it back together, i did notice upon refitting that the position sensor the screws wouldnt tighten up, they do up, but they wont go tight, however it is only a switch and it appears it cannot leak air in from there.

Started her up, its now idling at around 1200 revs

Its made the throttle hang worse, but its hit and miss, give it beans drop the clutch and it will stick at 3 - 4000 revs, then stay there unless you let the clutch go again, or it will just take ages to drop down the rev range.

The cable is fine, free, i took it apart again all seems fine, free, nothing is stuck or sticking, would this be because the throttle position sensor isnt done up solid? For some reason the screws wont tighten up? I was thinking about just putting some instant gasket around where joins to see if it seals..

Can't understand whats causing it if not that?

Thanks

There is also a breather hose from rear of engine under idle speed control valve area and runs under the thermostat housing fella, Check the rubber hose especially on the 90 degree bend for splits as this is a very common hose to fail, only about £10 from ford
