think i've fell out of love with the cossy..Changed my mind now!!!
think im losing the faith..!!!!
my saff is sitting in a lockup with a flat battery and a flat tyre i havent even laid eyes on it since june......ive only used it four times this year since i built it (it was a rolling shell)
just cant be arsed with it
the engine was rebuilt including new rings, shells, valve guides&seals, hybrid turbo rebuild,
gaskets, water pump etc..and still it smokes on over-run (blue smoke not fuel)
the engine has been in two other cars before this one and it has always smoked although since the rebuild its not half as bad..
ive just had enough of spending money on them..ive had six cossy's in my time 3x 3doors and 3x saffs.......
.......think ive come to the end.....pass me a rope

Have to say I feel the same,I'm gonna get mine 100% sorted for next summer when the prices creep up a bit (especially for an AIRCON model!!!) and out it ASAP,just have no real time to enjoy it,I'll be frightened to leave it anywhere,I'm far too used to 100% reliable cars now, which most standardish sapph's are but who wants a big standard one that even a mildly sorted golf turbo could waste?
Still not sure what to replace it with but I've seen E39 m5's around Ł6000 now and focus st's the same, which for me tick more boxes.
Getting old I suppose!!!!

Haven't got anywhere near that point with mine but then, to be fair, it's been extremely reliable as I've tried to do lots of preventative maintenance in the last 12 years and get jobs done well if I can't do them myself.
Still by far the most enjoyable car I've owned

Ive been there, I had a few other cars in between but when you're still around people with Cossies the bug stays with you. Then when they get theirs out or you have a go of them again then you instantly want another. Theres no other car that can make you grin as much as a Cossie coming on boost hard. Leave it in the lock up, chuck it on stands and just let it sit there till you feel the love again because it will come back.

This whats makes me laugh when people say they dont use them. Why not its just a car like any other car. There just an old car that have had years and years of abuse.
Get them sorted and use them.I think some people just get scared to use them but love the fact they have a cossie.
To the original poster.of this thread. Can you not buy anotjer engine complete and just swap them over.

If its all been rebuilt then get it looked at by someone to find out where its getting the oil in, may be a simple breather issue, did you have it bored? if not was there much of a lip on the cylinder tops etc as if just replacing the rings isnt gonna work for long as you've found out.

Happily retired
I love my Cossie but except its 22+ years old so not everyday transport. Its sounds as if you cant afford to keep it at the standard thats required to run trouble free. These cars need experts to keep them healthy & thats costly. Would not swap my Rover 25 for a Cossie as everyday transport, but comes the hour, comes the car & when i want the ultimate buzz the Cossie still does that.

Threw money at mine for 2 years, got it exactly how i wanted it then spun a shell. couldnt bring myself to spend more grands fixing it so sold it for 4k with a blown engine and it sold in 3 days.
I now have a wicked oldskool ford that i love to take out on weekends.
But still wish i had kept my saph instead and forgotton about it for a few months. as by now i would have rebuilt it and be loving it again. I miss it like mad and keep looking at pics of it.
Once a cossie boy always a cossie boy, i will have another its just a matter of time

Fix it, drive it, love it
Its hard to get interested in something again when its looking sorry for itself and wont go as it should, if Kate Beckinsale was in your lock up with a busted lip and a case of herpes would you leave her there or get her out ....

Ha ha good lad.Im in the prosess of getting a new turbo for mine cause its slowly been dying for years now.The cossie is in my dads garage with no rear axle cause i found a bit of rot on the chassis leg so im in the prosess of fixing that too. There just old cars that need a bit of tlc.My cossie will never be 1pp% mint ever but i dont care cause i use mine and thats what its for.
