A box from any MK6 1.6/1.8 will do you matey. There is some minor ratio variation, but nothing hugely noticeable. Your car should have a rear started, so best to get a box from a 1996 car onwards.
One thing I'd quite like to try is fitting the internals from a 1.7 Puma box into an Escort. Short gearing might make it quite nippy low down!

The iB5 is a VERY strong box, been used plenty of times in ZT applications effectively. I don't know how much stronger the MTX is, if at all, but as far as I'm aware we are talking about a standard car here anyway and the MTX is the sloppiest, crappiest gearbox I've ever used and the IB5 is as tight as a drum, million times better changes and much quicker and snappier and is the correct gearbox for the car, so a straight swap anyway.

Sorry, what?
If it's so strong, why are so many ZT guys moving to MTX boxes now? Nothing to do with them mashing normal boxes then?
How many boxes did Christian Major's car go through over the years? 17? That included some fancy CTS ones.
The IB5 has a nicer shift, but it's a pansy little thing for turbo use.

my old mk6 escort had a 2.0l zetec on throttle bodies fitted.
was circa 180bhp and i broke the ib5, so stuck in another off a 50k miler...
less than 2 weeks later:
it was only the diff that failed, so it might pay to slot in an uprated diff and keep the ib5
never used an mtx so can comment on those, but people do use the TD boxes as they are supposed to be strong.

In a modestly-powered car the IB5 can take plenty of abuse.
