If its the V6 make sure the belts dont need doing, If its the 1.8 make sure the head gaskets not sat itself!
I ran a 52 plate MG ZS 120+ for a year or so, nice enough but a bit boring. Only got a grand when I moved it on though, good value cars tbh, provided you get one that doesnt poo its head gasket

i was thinking of buying a ZR as a runaround as they seem cheap for what they are....There not that bad are they...apart from Head gasket of course?

taz1787 Oct 11, 2011 05:36 PM

if its the 1.8 and used daily gasket should be fine if its been sat around then expect to have to have it done soon

thats what makes the gasket go being sat around as the rubber in gasket perishes from being sat around

taz1787 Oct 11, 2011 05:37 PM

the zr are a quick little motor too

the gasket is only half a days work even the vvt. just as good to use a dose of k-seal, absolutely amazing stuff. they are thirsty cars tho.

If it's a diesel, then you're onto a winner at that money IMO... they're pretty under-rated and easy to get a bit of extra poke from too.

I've had the 120 and the 180. Excellent value for money, I thought cheap to run, never had any issues, just a good means of A to B. The 180 was also very nice through the twisty bits. Not really sure why I sold it, other than I was offered profit on it. Just answered my own question there!

I think a fully stripped out ZS180 would make a fairly fun, cheap and pretty nippy track car... remember them being pretty highly praised for handling when they came out, so with a few upgrades then it should be good on track I'd have thought.

Ive got a MG ZS and i hate the fucking thing!

Dont get me wrong, good car and kinda nice ish to look at but the suspension is soooo shit but for the money well worth it. I dont think it would ever let you down TBH and mine has a multilayered head gasket so dont think ill ever need to replace anything on it.

For £600 notes i say its worth it.
