Default ST170 running trouble..

been a while since i sold off my garage of old fords so decided to get back into them by buying another st170.. its on the road, t&t ect, using it as an everyday runner and tarting her up a bit as i go along!

but.. driving down the road today and it started to bog down and cut out as if it was running out of fuel, the fuel light was on but only for 16miles.. put fuel in anyway, was an arse to start again (wouldnt idle and had to pump the throttle pedal on and of to stop it cutting out again till it sort of cleared itself) got it going and idling again (sometimes just around 6/700 though) the car revs right round to 7k when ur driving now but if u put ur foot down quick it coughs and splutters a bit..

any ideas?? much appreciated

Dave

Would defiantly change the fuel filter first chap cheap and easy as they are bad for clogging up. Did mine and it was black crap coming out it and the car had only done 45k

Fuel pumps are common on these. Bogging down under load is the biggest symptom! Not easy to fix either, need to drop the tank down to get to it.

will try the filter first.. the past couple days the fuel lights came on cos i've just topped up a tenner at a time n its been driven quite hard, just grudge paying the small garages in town for fuel! so holding of till i go out of town to fill it. so could maybe shitty fuel? god knows, will get a filter when im out later

My brother had the same problem with his, does it only do it when the fuel is low? If so it's sh1t in the tank and pump, was lots of it in there aswell, keep it above quarter of a tank till you can sort it

does seem to be worse when its low on fuel.. will keep it topped up till i get it sorted also, the engie management light has came on.. the code its bringin up is for a inlet manifold sensor! so i'm guessing it could be over/under fueling?

inlet manifold sensor? i doubt a dodgy fuel pump would cause any kind off inlet manifold issue

nope st170 pumps are different as they don't have a tank return and there's a few other differences which i can't remember what they are now.
