Default 1.4 zetec focus

my mate has one an its smoking badly so he wants todo an engine swap.

i was wondering if theres any engines that go straight in with plug an play loom
(like the fiesta 1.7 conversion).

also how much work is it to put a 2.0 zetec black top in i.e is there much loom work or mount been moved about?

hope someone can help me on this as we are looking todo it very soon.

thanks Sam,

1.7 is a no go, I have had a look.

If you can get the engine loom, ECU and the chips out the keys from a 1.8 or 2.0 Focus it's a straight swap.
If you want a 1.6 then all you have to change is the ECU, engine and chips in the keys as the engine looms are the same

It's all plug and play, you just need the loom from the engine bay and the ECU ?

That'll do...
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Focus...item415b83da1e

That will work on both 1.8 and 2.0 just need to have the correct ECU.

for swapping to the 2l you are best off buying a scraper as a donor as there will be a far few bits you will need as for starters the inlet and exhausts are on opposite sides. there will also be different mounts, coolant hoses etc. the 2l also uses a different gear box (mtx75) so might need the 1.8 flywheel and clutch.

having said that, if you buy a donor then you can litterally swap everything over nice and easy then.

HOWEVER, it will probably cost more to insure than a standard 2l focus so you may aswell sell the 1.4 - which will sell really easily due to small engine, good economy and good safety and slow (perfect first car) - and buy a 2l which will be easier to get at a decent price as being a thirsty 2l hey are getting hard to shift on. most people these days buy a diesel of that engine size.

This is incorrect, to change to the Zetec-E so 1800 or 2L is a massive task, one that plenty of people have comtemplated on doing in the past and not bothered.

If you had a 1800 and wanted a 2L then it's a different story as they are the same engine just larger but your engine is totally different, more below...

Far to much to list but for starters the inlet and exhaust are on opposing sides, the only reason you would consider doing such a thing, is if you had a donor vehicle you could swap all the parts with.

The current engine you have Zetec-SE (Sigma) is completly different to the other Zetecs with the only resembleance being the name.

Best thing and the easiest thing is to source and fit a 1600 as this is the same engine as he already has just bigger, at the most you may need a slight tweak to the mapping but not sure if this would even be required!

I don't know about 1.7 but it should be fairly easy in terms of fitment seen as again, it's the same engine but larger displacement!
