when stave had a firework land on his toyota chaser rear screen and smash it, as it was an old import and you cant actually get that perticular rear windscreen in this country he was in a bit of a curfuffal, so bought a cheapo clearish shower curtain, and cut to fit and glued it in.

it had fish on it tho lol

was a very good effort and didnt get any problems off the old bill lol

i dont see the problem, i had a pal drive a nissan bluebird with no back window and a matress strapped to the roof for weeks, i think he put a towel over the hole sometimes lol

he pushed a 3i 10 miles for me in it once lol, no rope just bumper to bumper

well i did it with my old fiesta when some scum bag thru a brick thru it, i got a tug of a copper he only questioned it and i just explained that it happend that morning and i was on my way to my friends garage to get it sorted but he was more interested in the small reg plate on the front :S

If that was the case there wouldn't be a single convertable on the road that would pass an MOT.

You don't need to have a front windscreen fitted for an MOT.

its not illegal , its not part of the mot test , perfectly legal if a bit drafty though

oh i expect they would say that it's not as it left the factory, or as it still has wipers fitted it must have a windscreen

ive dont it before when someone broke my rear screen. Drove about 15 miles including motorway to get a new screen fitted.

Its not illegal but most likely frowned upon

Not illegal in the slightest,it would only fail Mot on sharp edges if there were any present.
As for the mirror question,drivers side only is the requirement.

yes you need a rear window that you can see out of, if the rear window is missing for whatever reason and you cover the hole with plastic sheeting or whatever and you cant see out of the back you will need side mirrors, ie like a van, if the side mirrors are missing or damaged you are committing an offence just like van owners

Wrong, no windows are needed for the mot, some kit cars for example have no window, the only proviso is if the front screen is fitted then it must have wipers, but take the front screen out and wipers off it passes, wiper present with no window is a fail, rear and side windows don't come into it, although tinted windows are to be part of the mot, on amount of tint.
Charlies Rover sd1(rolls royce merline engine) is mot'd without front screen for example
