Was looking around my car for the ECU wiring and noticed this metal port next to my diagnostic port. Any idea what it is?

Also should the wiring be this messy?

First pic looks like an old jack plug that they once used as an immobiliser and the wiring is normal

Thanks for replies guys and Will I thought it was a OBD style connector? It's ??-232 one I think- can't remember full name. Oh well, any ideas where to get a lead to connect for diagnostics?

You can use a DB9 RS232 comms connector yet, but traditionally all Pectel stuff uses a jack plug for comms.

It will probably be cheaper to make a lead.

Will, I have an old VAG-COM lead from my old Golf mk4. Would this work as I've downloaded a copy of Pectel Monitor software onto my laptop.
