motorised throttle body pal. do loads of them
also do lots of injectors, check they are sitting right and the o rings arent perished, water drops down from the screenwash nozzles and sits there oxidising so the injectors dont sit right
if thats the case, ask for the modified screenwash nozzles aswell as the injectors

That garage were it is hav said they think it might be a throttle body but I wasn't sure. So is it a common problem with the throttle body? Are they simple to change or best left to pros?

Afaik them C2s are all flyby-wire. The throttle pedal sensor could be fucked or maybe an idle control valve. 3 of the 4 saxo vts' i have/had, all had the icv problem!!
Typical french shite. But still love them

My son has one of these, the GT.
His had very similar problems and he told me that it was eventually traced to a faulty plug on the MAF sensor.
He said that it was not seated properly and had starting problems, cutting out and was using quite a lot of fuel.
It's not missed a beat since replacing the plug.
