steering wheels off centre
a novice question but will laser tracking straighten up my steering wheel its slightly down to the left when driving straight, its happened since ive fitted st170 brakes on my focus and the trackings fine, just wondering if it will work instead of wasting £25 if it dont

Do it yourself.
Loosen the track rod/end nuts each side. Wind the left side rod into the rod end by half a turn. On the right side wind it out by the same amount. Tighten nuts and test drive. If the steering wheel is still to the left, repeat as above. If it's gone to the right reverse what you did to both sides by 1/4 turn. . |
in short to the question mate yes
|
In theory yes it will sort it out, in practice there are many variables, and it could still be slightly off centre.
I've actually done as suggested with centralising the rack via the rod ends, as it annoys me when not straight. I used to love the arrangement on my old corsair, it used a slip ring compressed by a disc each side, so you just drove and stopped in a straight line, then if wheel wasn't straight loosened 6 allen bolts rotated wheel till straight, tighten bolts job done, this was a aftermarket wheel though. tabetha |
its really annoying me aswell and thanks for the advice but im no good with the spanners so i will try the alignment first, ive noticed over 60 i get a little wobble on the steering wheel aswell and thats really irratating

the wobble chance to be wheel balance so get that checked also, if you get the alignment done get all the suspension and steering checked first and if anything is worn etc replace this beforehand
