Default ZVH vs Zetec - What are the benefits?

Basically what are the benefits of fitting a CVH head over a Zetec head?

Makes it cheeper and easier to build because you can use the cvh manifolds.

the only 'benefit' is that people don't question it too much when you open the bonnet, the zetec head is better in every other way. after you've wasted all of your time and money converting it to fit, you'll think 'why did i bother?'

i've been there and done it a few times, but never again unless someone asks me to build one

might be worth sticking a zetec head back on it if you have the neccessary funds, otherwise just play with some carbs/throttle bodies, a wild cam and some big valves (http://www.pumaracing.co.uk/ for the valves) in it.

zvh are built to up the capacity to 2.1 litres making the engine produce more torque and power, is there any advantages over a full zetec , no is the answer but if youve got a good spec cvh cylinder head with cams etc and youve brought custom manifolds etc and spent alot of money then the zvh would make sense as youve only got to pay for the bottom end. if it was a case of building it from scratch then its zetec all the way

cheers paul

i'm not saying its a terrible engine by the way, as i had alot of fun with mine but if i had the option of choosing a zetec or zvh to build from scratch, i'd definately take the valver

mine was alot of fun with valves, cams and headwork

The old ZVH tends to produce a large amount of torque but from my experience they seem to run out of puff at the upper end of teh rev range. Apparently if you spend on the head to get it flowing you can sort this.

They aren't a bad engine at all and there are plenty out there that have proven themselves. If it were my cash though it would have to be a full blown CVH or a Zetec rather than a bastard love child of the 2. lol
