ST200
Can anyone tell me the difference between a 2000 and a 2001 v6 2.5 ST200 as I have been told by a Ford mechanic that the 2001 is a 3.0 litre but I think he is talking out of his hat.
OK, The full story, I have a 2000 mondeo ST200 which had a replacement engine fitted that has a label stating that the short block is a 2001 . Its just about doing my head in.

The mondeo mk1/mk2 were fitted with a 6 cylinder, 24 valve 2.5 V6 engine, and only those, if yours is a mk2 mondeo ST200 (it would be imperial blue?) then it will be a 2.5 V6, the ST200 engine is different to the normal 2.5 V6 engine but only in the ST200's they just have different inlets, cams, throttle body etc, but other than that the bare bones of the engine are the same.
The 3.0 V6 is the ST220 which is fitted to MK3 mondeos and i think they were only 2003 maybe late 2002 onwards? Yours will or should have a 2.5 V6 engine in it, i doubt very much it would have had the 3.0 engine fitted.

the only changes I can think of is later ones had a bit more bhp due to slightly larger lower intake runners and they used a different putty grade for the extruded honning but your should be the late spec anyhow as my lump is late 1999 and I have the larger lower runners , and as said st200 are 2.5 l

Just to add to this, when my 200 estate neded a new engine Ford supplied the lumop and it was fitted by Nationwide Autocentres. When I colelcted it I commented that it felt down on power and was told that it needed running in. When I got home and checked the engine codes Ford had supplied a standard ST24 (167bhp) lump. I had to go into the FOrd dealer and explain to them how to identify an ST200 engine from a ST24 lump. No-one in the dealership had got a clue as to what the diffrences were and even admitted they thought they were the same engine.
Goes to show how useless Ford's really are.
