What's leaking, engine or gearbox?

Back of engine could be the rear crankshaft oil seal, or more likely the sump gasket is not correctly seated.

Where the gearbox joins the engine (the bell housing)?

Could be the sump or Crank sill.

I trust you never filled the bell housing. lol

Sounds like brake fluid from your clutch release bearing to me!

Is it new box (new to you) maybe the sill on the shaft is kaput or the box has a crack in it somewhere?

the silicone you want is( RTV silicone sealant ) loads of makes around i paid about 5 pound for mine cos i thought the sump was leaking ,but it was the alloy housing that its bolted to ,cos the sump is in two bits ,look close cos the oil gets blown to where you think the leak is ,mine only started leaking when i took my engine out and put it back in the joint must get disturbed if you sit the engine on the floor when its out ,
