pinto rebuild help required
my younger brother has been given a 2.0 pinto efi in bits from my older brother and ive been sticking it together for him, im starting to get to bits that im unsure of now since it wasnt me who took it apart
from these pics you can see that the flywheel sits miles away from the block, is this right? or should there be something inbetween? http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x43/5tox/pin31.jpg http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x43/5tox/pin32.jpg |
Try offering the starter motor up to the block to see where it would engage. Decades ago I used to build f/road and rally pinto engines for racers, but I cant remember for the life of me if the f/wheel should sit like that.

looks fine to me
|
do you have the gearbox or bellhousing handy.. temp put a couple of bolts to secure it and put the starter motor in.. should tell you its fine. :)
|
thats all i have for the minute, will nick the starter motor out of the cvh and see how it fits
|
john will know :)
|
lads its fine,
only thing that goes in between is the dust guard thing that everyone throws in the bin anyway |
The "dust" guard serves more purpose than that, it also stops any fidgeting and eating of the alloy bell housing from the iron block, as well as stopping dirt ingress etc.

i know crossflows have a ridiculously long starter nose on them where they engage by a long worm gear.
|

were using the gearbox thats in at the minute which belongs to the 1.8 CVH
no idea what type it is though |
been after a distributor for a while now, looking for a standard efi dizzy... found one on ebay but its got a TFI module attatched to it
all i know is that it means thick film ignition, i have no idea what it does but can it still be used or should i keep looking for another |

no idea what type it is though the 1800 cvh uses a type 9 box. don't suppose you have an 1800 cvh laying around do you? |
will have when we take it out in a week or so yeah, shes not very well though. pulls quite well hits about 2 and a half k revs pulls back and then goes fine again
|
we have an injection distributor to go in but as im looking at it im wondering, does it matter about aligning it properly or do i just whack it in then worry about that later when timimg the car up.
what i mean is when im sticking the distributor in does it have to be facing a certain way or do i have to line anything up etc... or is all that done after its in |

The whole things been a big learning curve so far, preparing my for the cossies rebuild summer time you need the EFi dizzy the normal leccy one wont work with the ECU ;-) there is a notch in the dizzy body you align the notch in the rotor arm to it :top: |
