Any Mitsubishi mechanic's...L200 sump removal
 

Got a mate that has a 06 plate L200 and its got a corroded and leaking sump, anyone ever changed one of these as was wondering the best way of going about doing it.

Looks kinda close to the front axle when it comes to lowering the sump down, do you have to lift the engine up off its mountings or is there room to drop the sump with everything still in place ???

ive done one of these on a 52plate i think we took the diff out from memory and gave loads of room to do it without moving the engine, could well be different on yours though

Cheers Ben, there's only a couple of inches between the diff and the sump so thats why i thought about maybe lifting it up off the engine mountings, maybe quicker than dropping the diff out !!

we took the engine out of one with a knocking bottom end to remove the sump
(but we did think we would of have to replace the engine tho)
ended up putting a new crank and shells in

it wasnt that bad really

We've just done one of these with exactly the same problem. I don't think we removed the axle or engine though. If I recall correctly we just unbolted the mounts and raised the engine as far as possible.

Book time is only about 3.6 hours if that helps! We was going to drop the front diff off until we learnt that.

We may have tried unbolting the front subframe to pull that down too but I can't remember the full details.

Thought I better update this as have now done the job !!

Not as bad as was first thought... no need to drop the front diff or lift engine up off its mounts, just remove the steering arm running across the front axle and this gives enough room to get the sump dropped out. :DD:

Start to finish the job took less than 4 hours but this included drilling out and re-threading one of the engine undertray bolts !! :roll:

just done an L200
1. Remove radiator
2. Remove all bolts holding sump (10mm)
3. Remove 4 bolts holding oil pick up (12mm)
4. move sump around to access the 12mm bolts
5. When pick up is removed sump will fall out with a little wiggle repeat process in reverse to install.
6. No need to remove anything else
