3 door vandalised!!!! Grrrr
Well my 3 door is currently in a paintshop that will remain un-named for now and the owner thought it would be a great idea to leave the car outside all day on good friday....upon his return some bastard has jumped up and down on the bonnet making a rite mess of it. He is demanding he straightens it out himself and refuses to pay the £170 for a replacement bonnet. Whats one meant to do???

It happened whilst the vehicle was with them and they have a "care of duty" so whether he likes it or not he needs to sort it out, in full, to a standard you are happy with at HIS expense or you drag him into the small claims court and go through trading standards.
He must have insurance so you may be able to claim off that.

im a perfectionist mate, probablies one of the biggest fannys ever when it comes to body work, thats why im getting a respray done on a car that was already fairly tidy, just wasnt upto my standard. ive never been so pissed off....the stupid thing is im more annoyed at him for leavin it out than i am the bastard that jumped on it.

Problem is they rush and fudge some of the insurance jobs. Some of the stuff I've seen as "repaired" was frankly a joke even to my fairly untrained eye

As said before he has a duty of care for your vehicle whilst it is on his premises. I'd call your local Trading Standards office and get them to have a word. Get a new bonnet, don't take no for an answer. It's his fault and there's no way he should just 'repair' your bonnet.

there are some truly shocking body shops out there.
when my dad's mondeo was crashed into the repair was £4,500. it was repaired 3 times as they first 2 were shit! first one anyone could see it was shit with overspray on plastic and a MASSIVELY rippled sill, doors missaligned etc. second one was inspected and found to be shit so then we argued with the insurance company and took it somewhere we were recomended who ripped everything off and started again with all new pannels!
i would tell him cost shouldn't be an issue if he's insured and a big pannel like a bonnet will not "repair" properly and it should be in the condition you gave it to him in and therefore not full of filler!!

As said, finding a GOOD bodyshop that's 100% trustworthy and reliable is a bloody nightmare.....if he's repairing the bonnet and you're a perfectionist you know you won't be happy with it so when he's done his best tell him you're not happy with it and the reasons why!
I've had various bodywork done in the past and have never been truly satisfied with the work, and it's silly money too.......i had a door replaced on my work van last year after a ding and they couldn't even get that right (poor colour match/alignment of door/trim and flat as hell paint that hadn't been polished) etc, but being a work van i just couldn't be bothered to argue too much about it. Trouble is that's the standard they try and do your pride and joy car to

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
new bonnet all day long for me!
especially if the bonnet has never been repaired, then why put up with it being repaired?
theres two reasons i wouldnt have a fillered bonnet,
first is especially on a cosworth with the heat produced from the engine you`ll soon get shrinkage on the filler so the repair will become obvious sooner or later,
second bonnets are flimsy enough as it is, so even with the standard flexing a bonnet does theres a good chance it will crack before long.
your not talking filling a ford badge in, its going to be filler everywhere!

Yo man your lucky ! imagine how you would feel if you found that someone hopped onto the roof and jumped up and down a few times and then hopped off the spoiler cracking it and then booted both rear qtrs right on ther swage line. Would take 15 seconds to completely ruin that car as opposed to the easiest fix which is replacing the bonnet.
I agree if its a shit repair say you keep it fucker and get me a proper bog free bonnet or else

And you have said and i also know how anal you are so chances are bud your gona know how its been repaired and focus on that point only therefore cost yourself more when you decide that you aint happy and it aint up to your standards.

I wouldn't even give him the chance to try to repair it as you know you won't be happy with it and then when you reject it he will try to use the time he has already spent on it as a bargaining tool with you. Also he will claim that it's already cost him a few hundred to carry out the repair so he won't want to put any more of his money into the job when you reject it.
As others have said i would stick out for a new bonnet and possibly take legal advice so that you can be sure how you stand if he fails to go along with the replacement bonnet.
