Default thought id give painting a go... pics inside

iv been wanting to learn to paint cars for ages now, so after having a massive stone chip on the bonnet of my daily mk4 golf i decided to paint the bonnet! unfortunatly i didnt get a before pic. but someone has keyed the back so i will be taking photos of that when i do it.
anyway hers a pic of the base coat, clear and then after being polished up...
this is my 1st ever attempt at painting a car... what do you think ?

i need to learn how to lay the clear flatter.. but what do you think

the whole car is a strange colour, when you catch it in the light it goes bright silver then in the shade it goes a bluey silver. but same i think its were the paint is fresh it just looks a bit differnt to the rest of the paint thats been exposed to the elements for 11 years.

You have some good eyes there m8 considering the wing is in a heavy dark shadow.

Looks good to me from here.

i need to learn how to lay the clear down smoother / flatter. i think maybe i had to much fluid coming out ? took quite a bit of wet sanding.

must of saved myself atleat that much. iv got a repair to do on the sill and also paint the tailgate so i will take photos of them and see how it goes. the sill is a blow in job so fingers crossed i get the knack of it!

iv only got a cheap machine mart 30quid gun wouldnt mind a proper sata one or something.

and also i could of got the finish ALOT better but it would of been better than the rest of the car so had to leave it at this stage.

will deinfatly be painting my fiesta now tho gonna spend a long time doing it! and save about Ł1800 labour!

You can get flattening agent that you mix in with the lacquer that will help it to lay a bit more smooth.

Plus laying a few thin coats rather than one heavy coat will help.

The finish could be down to a lot of things m8, Thinners used, activator speed and temperature, just trial and error really when you diy, keep at it it will only get better.

Aye theres like 14 different shades of that silver ..

Real hard to get the job right and Silver will always show clouds in the paint .. Looks like a pretty decent job mate well done

That looks very good for a first attempt. Finish won't really be affected by products too much if its in a garage as i very much doubt its going off too quick. Like you've read a good finish is all about practice. And prep.
