anyone used the MSD evolution chip?
Im currently still sourcing a few parts needed for the upgrade, i have dark green 803's on the way and just need a 3 bar map sensor and The msd chip
I think the one im after is the stage 2 (dark greens and 3 bar map sensor, T3 turbo) which gives just over 300bhp
Has anybody else had an MSD evolution chip fitted? my local place is near kings lynn,
what exactly is involved? do they just stick the chip in (i.e could i do it at home) or are other checks / adjustments carried out
how long roughly would it take and what is the cost? i checked the website and it said price to be announced

Just taxed mine today. I used the MSD custom chip website to order mine. Basically a stage 1 setup but adjusted to incorporate a T34. I set the C0 bang in the middle of their recommendation and it drives mint. Smooth, and the boost rises nicely with no hickups or flat spots etc. Well impressed

or do you actually have to go to one of the msd approved places

What he said. I have a gas analyser at home, and I fitted one of msd's new Weber Fuel pressure regulators which is preset at 3.5bar. I set me C0 up at just 2.5%. Im going to having a drive down to MSD at somepoint in the coming months just to have it double checked. But yes, the chips come with instructions for fittment and setup.

It is DIY but I would always take to someone with the equipment, Wideband etc to check the fuelling etc over to be sure alls well.
To be honest there is no unified stage, one tuners stage 2 is another tuners stage 3, what you mention is effectively stage 3, at this stage some also uprate to T34, RS 500 cooler etc.

my car runs the greens, 3 bar and msd plug and play chip. all i did was checked co, fuel presure and went out with wide band on to check all was ok at 24 psi. still runs this now 8 months on but with big cooler as for track. highly recomend it as car drives mint. t3 is so responcive as well
this car is my daily so gets driven all the time aswell

Hello mate,
What most owners do is obtain their own custom spec chip here:
http://shop.motorsport-developments....hips-169-c.asp
And then take it direct to their favorite local cosworth specialist or check it out using wideband equip of their own / friends. Most off the shelf calibrations will work absolutely fine as long as all the instructions regarding fuel pressure / Co / Boost etc are adhered too but its well worth checking that the vehicles components are in fact delivering what the ECU is asking for, IE: Correct fuelling from pumps and filters and spark lead from various component timings.

Edited to say thanks to the other members for the kind comments, your business and feeedback is much appreciated.

To give tabetha her dues she's one of the most knowledgeable people ive spoken to on here when it comes to cosworths so must be something in her comment (not that im looking for an argument or anything)
Still going with MSD though they have a very impressive rep.

Chip for L1, light greens?
My 3door has light greens on it and runs an old superchip from the early 90's,would it run any better with a more modern eprom like one of these?

Tabetha is a really helpful guy who puts a lot of effort into his posts and I think this forum is generally all the better for him being on here (he put a lot of effort into helping me out with a tarox brake query I had for example), but in the case of the engine tuning side of things there are quite a few on here with a LOT more experience of the YB, and I would probably take everything HE says as "true as far as he knows" rather than treating it as gospel like you might from someone like Martin or Mark or Stu who deals with an awful lot of these engines on a day to day basis. Ie I dont think he is lieing or anything sinister like that, but he isnt always the best informed person on that particular subject thats all.

I suspect so though, people know a lot more about setting these engines up now than they did in the 90s and superchips were never really a cosworth specialist in the first place (not saying their chips dont work, they do, just saying others like MSD have put a lot more hours into theirs by comparison and it generally tends to show)

mine has light greens and some unidentifyable chip, apparently its 270bhp but im not convinced. dark greens are the better route i think

Thats probably a stage 2 conversion thats not really heard of or done anymore, typically with stage 1 you don't change any hardware.
The only reason you would NEED bigger injectors is if you need the fuelling they provide and for this to happen you would have to run more boost, the standard yellows are fine for stage 1 power.
You will also require a 3 BAR MAP sensor as with the extra boost you will now be producing the standard 2 BAR item will not be able to see it and a decent -31 actuator which you probably already have.
It's also imperative you have a decent HG and the two weak points these suffer with have been done that being the fan and fuel pump looms.
