Who gets there RS serviced at Fords and should i???????
Got talking today and basically my car is FULL Ford service History. Now i personally dont feel to happy letting Ford loose on my car to service it, here is why
1, I dont want some young school leaver driving my car or "learning the ropes" on it.
2, Being as it is 17 years Old, they may think, oh well its an old car so Joe Bloggs just out of his time can service it.
3, I ALWAYS run my car on Mobil 1, so i dont want them putting shite oil in it.
4, Lets say for example my brake pads are low, They would stick shit, standard pads in, but i run Mintex 1144.
Can people see where i am coming from. If it was a Standard 3DR then i wouldnt be AS worried but its not.
Now i usually, with all my other Cosworths, have serviced them myself but as this is Full FORD history i am wondering if i should keep it up??????
I also change the Oil ect EVERY 3k mile anyway and if it needs ANYTHING, it gets it.

A stamp from an RS specialist is worth more in my view.
Plus potential buyers usually ring up the tuner who deals with the car before buying it, you can't do that if everything is done at Ford can you now!

Brooklyn have been around for quite a while. So Id trust them more than any of the Dageham Motors lot. I know you're self employed but maybe if you were able to wait whilst it was serviced you could keep an eye on it?
Having said that. A service invoice from a RECOGNISED specialist is just as valid. Especially as the cars modified now. Anybody whose likely to buy the car in the future SHOULD accept that as an alternative to a Ford main agent. IMHO
For the record my BMW goes to a specilaist not the local dealer.

I took my RST to Fords for an MOT gave them exact words "dont close my bonnet on my intercooler i will be in the waiting room come and get me and i will do it if the person doing it does'nt want to close it or is'nt sure what i mean" 2 hours later a guy comes back with my keys to say that my car was done went home lifted the bonnet and found a massive dent and 4 big scrathes on the top of my brand new intercooler. Went back to be told "we are proffesionals we would not have done that it must have been there before it came" .My opinion on main dealers will never take my car back there.

TIFF .. NOOO!
A Ford service stamp is worth jack shit IMO.. Ford haven't got a clue what these cars are these days.. I personally wouldn't be encouraged by recent service history by Ford... If you have the choice, take it to a recognised specialist IMO.
Main Dealer servicing of any make is poor these days IMO.. I really do question the value/benefit of so-called "service history" - I've seen too many examples of "FSH" cars I'm afraid, that may as well have empty books.

Do it yourself, it is the only way without spending a fortune that you'll know it's all been done right.
I took my car to Ford and they let an apprentice work on it unsupervised to change the engine.
A new rocker cover, 50 litres of engine oil followed by o ring on the oil-water cooler when they finally took it back, rerouted wiring almost everywhere, replacement gearbox, panel beaten and repainted bonnet, replacement inner gearstick gaiters and parts of the shaft, rewelded exhaust (twice), about Ł700 of my own money and many many many days of my time and it all just about works again. Still missing the shit shield between engine and box, still pissed off, still can't take them to court as if I do they will sack my brother who works there.
Oh, and they banned my car from their workshop, saying it was too difficult to work on because it wasn't standard. More like their employees don't have a fucking clue. The guy who did the work is nicknamed "monkey" and got a replacement engine off ford after he fucked his own engine in his own car up on works time fixing it Just to rub salt into the wound, he won the area apprentice of the year award. A guy who carefully scraped all of the non-serviceable gasket off of a 24v rocker cover
Oh, did I mention that they found a split CV boot when they removed the driveshafts to do a huge job like change the engine and didn't even bother to replace it - THANKS FOR NOTHING TC HARRISON PETERBOROUGH.
Basically, don't touch that particular company with a bargepole.
Rant over, anyone taking their car to Ford for servicing??
Oh, did I forget to mention that it took them 40 hours to change the engine in all and that the power steering locked up on my way home from picking it up along a road by a river because they fitted the wrong bit of pipe

Testing the future
as an owner i know the only way to do it right is to do it yourself. as a potential buyer, to me a ford service history is worth less than meeting and judging the owner who has a folder full of receipts for all the oil changes, parts replaced etc themselves.
it really depends on if you want to keep it a while, if you will be selling it later to a normal person, or if you're planning on selling it to an RS freak (who probably wouldn't be interested as it's modified).

hi tiff, i took my fez to brooklyn ford rs centre for an m.o.t. when i first bought a few months back. i think it is the same one you are talking about in redditch? anyway i wasn't too impressed with the service i got. they were very fussy with the m.o.t and failed it on the seat belt being under the seats, and not on top. also failed it on the headlight alignment. i can understand this but considering they have the equipment setup to look at the alignment, adjusting it would take literally 10 seconds. they then said they would adjust it for Ł17.50. and then when they drove the car back round to the car park for me, the guy gets out with his overalls on and didn't bother with a seat cover i might sound fussy but my car is a concours car and i intend on keeping it that way. i just didn't feel like it was looked after like it would be elsewhere to be honest.
now with a car like yours i wouldn't even consider it to be honest mate. my original thought was to take it there because they are an rs centre but in reality there no different to any ford dealer.

I took my cossie to fords when i first bought it (same week i bought it actually) and got some wiring sorted and asked them to change the cambelt, they refused to change it and instead said to make sure myself that it needed changing as they wer not comfatble doing it, so booked it in for the follwoing Sat with someone else But 2 days later the belt fucking snapped, so i swore never to go to fords again

Thanks for your input mate, and i totalluy understand your thinking.
Mine doesnt really need a "Service" as such as i have replaced, changed and checked everything anyway

Thats the thing, your last statement summed it up, I have found generally you just check things regularly anyway... and occasionally you will find something not right and replace... simple, obvioulsy a regular check underneath also, besides, reciepts for parts are as good as service history IMO, I even keep my reciepts when I buy oil, if I dont put it through the books

A good independent specialist has to rely on their reputation to maintain their business, Ford don't need to - chances are it'll be any old monkey or trainee that does the work, and Ford don't need to care much... people still keep going for some reason..
Obviously there will be some exceptions, but my experience and that of people I know says that's pretty much the way it is.

i know a bloke who has about 3 ford dealer stamps, and he's always stamping books,it really means nothing unless you have the reciepts for the work done too.full service books rarely mean much.

DONT DO IT! they all monkeys, my mate used to work for em, and when they got cossies in, they used to rag the fuck out of em!
they fucked my car, set the engine bay on fire!
and span it out on a road nearly crashing it,
Much better of with a specialists, gets treated with the respect it deserves

a guy round our way had his saff booked into Power Engineering for mapping,
he wanted it serviced before, but didn't want powers to do it as he wanted a
ford main dealer stamp. never got the car back as the main dealer took it for
a test drive & wrote it off.
not saying all are all the same, but there are some pricks about.

don't think some at the ford places know much either, i went in and asked for for a part for the fuel distributor (metering head) and i said for an RS Turbo. I was talking to a Techy too, and he asked me what the fuel distributor was!! My Face dropped. Some places maybe okay though, Brooklyn i think has a very good reputation.

I gave up on my Service history years ago.As i dont trust the little fookers road testing my car. Wot i do is keep all my receipts for my car and when they get changed (say oil)the mileage gets written on reciept. I know some might say that how do the potential buyer know i put the oil in.How do they know ford did. How many stories have we heard about things supposedly being changed and aint. So fook it do yourself and know it's been done properly. All IMO of course

just finding my feet
well imo ford and the big companies are mostly shite, i had a conversation with a ford dealer that was a RS place too whe the focus RS was about to come out, he told me for 2k they could build me a 350bhp cvh engined car
sprry but all the RS mechanic fromthe years of fords have all left and started there specialist tuner place, ask stu where he used to work before MSD
most of em dont know the fooking colours of the cars made adn they will stick a mobil 1 (0-40) based type oil in it
infact imagine they found a fauly like CO level and turned it down to 1.5% like the mechanic at work was doing on my cossie when my CO was too high as he asumed that was a problem
i say buy a stamp off em andn dont let em touch ya car, i think the ford history is only of any use if its standard though tiff, i prefer the fact my sevice history on my cossie is mostly pj motorsport tbh

Well, tbh, going on what people have said it looks like the Ford stamp may as well be put on Bog roll for all its worth.
I will carry on doing what i do which is change everything and keep a record of it
Cheers for all the comments peeps
