1760 Crossflow Power
could anybody tell me what sort of power a 1760cc crossflow with a fast road cam and ported and polished head, gases flowed and duplex timin chain, would have? roughly
Have bin offered one and just wanted to know what it would go like in my mk1 fiesta. |
What carbs is it running?
A mate of mine had a similar spec engine with twin 45DCOE Webers on but with quite a lairy cam in a mk2 Escort and that was around 135bhp. Went really well because it was such a light car and sounded awesome!! Not very good on fuel though lol |
Its running a mk3 xr3i escort carb so nothing special and i was thinking about changing the cam to make it better. The twin 40's have never been the cheapest carbs to run lol
|
It was quite a few years back now but i still remember the noise and having a massive grin on my face everytime i went in that car, it just sounded ace!!
|
Id say around 110-120 depending on carb set up.
|
Agreed on the sound. Crossflows always sounds phat. In some ways i prefer them from the zetec conversions and all that cause it still keeps the car with its element of oldskool.
|
Overall spec of the engine when its done "if get it" will roughly be:
1760 crossflow Gas flowed head, ported and polished Big valves and double springed Ashely manifold 4-2-1 and peco system Lightened flywheel Ultimate road cam Duplex timing chain XR3i carb Pointless distributor Magnacore leads NGK spark plugs Any idea of wat power this would be people? |
Have you tried asking on Turbosport?
There's a much bigger old skool scene on there mate! :DD: |

Thanks mate I think ill be having a look at that now.
|
I had a 1760, with a flowed head(std valve sizes), running a mk1 mexico cam(std in mk2 ghia!!), on a 32/36, that was around 125bhp.

it will be a carb from a xr3, the xr3i is injection.
My mate had a similar spec years ago, with twin 45's iirc and the wildest cam possible, it was a pig to drive under 2500rpm, but boy was it fun after that, bloody noisey mind/ |
Not to sure on the power output. But a set of 40/45 an a series 1 Rs turbo gearbox cause it's got a LSD helps minimise the wheelspin!!! You'll love it.....
|
not much more than 150bhp out of that spec
this is what that spec will sound like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUKkcyGXx7o |

this is what that spec will sound like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUKkcyGXx7o you wont get 150bhp out a xr3 carb be lucky to get 120bhp, my mexico got a ported big valve head and full race cam on 45s and made 163bhp and thats quite good power for a x/flow :top: |
your lucky to get 130bhp out o a xflow without changing to steel crankand rods m8.......also check that it is for a fiesta and not an escort as im pretty sure the escort xflow block is slightly taller
hope this helps |
