It Wasnt Me!
Terrible!
Im very conscious when working on the deck under a car, always shove wheels, bricks etc as well as axle stands and give it a good push before going near it, i'd rather it fell off the stands with a test push than fell on me!
I heard of 2 boys my mate knows doing a G.box on a transit RWD, they were under it trying to put the box back in, must have shook it too much and it fell off the stands, both had broken ribbs, one of their hands got trapped under some part of the car, lay there for 20 mins til someone heard them, gathered people and managed to lift it back up. OUCH.

This case is very very sad, and highlights the dangers of not taking proper care when working underneath a car. I'm sure this guy was one of many many many people who take the risk, but was just unlucky that the risk bit back with nasty consequences.

Im paranoid under cars at the best of times, then my brother decided to play about with my 3 ton jack as a joke and twisted it. Lucky I was only just under it laying sideways and it fell on my arm and slipped off, so didn't hurt too much. I will not go under a car without axle stands and sometimes my 3 ton trolley jack incase the stands fail.
RIP to your friend

Sorry to hear this has happened to your friend, sad news.
People have said what the scissor jack is actually for and tbh I agree,no way would you get me under a car held up by one.I always remember my mate having his 2.8 Capri fall on him and that was off a trolley jack placed under the diff. The result was only minor burns to his arms off the pipes and some bruised ribs but a split second later and he would of been looking up at the underside of the car and not had his head sideways. He still got a fair old gouge and scar above his eye off the diff.He was very lucky.Makes you think.

Can you cash a cheque?
Very sad news indeed Steve.
Hear of this happening more & more, we always have a good stock of axle stands available, scattered around the place, in strategic locations, that way the temptation to take a short cut is reduced to a very low order of probability.
Like many others, I like to see a car supported by an appropriate jack & correctly placed axle stands, sort of a belt & braces thing.
Hate to sound like a chap who is wise after a fact, but even if only one unsafe incident is prevented from occurring by this advice, then it's worth writing.

Whenever ive had to work on my car (like when i was away from home and crashed in the snow and had to change a rear axle bar) i jacked it up on the scissor jack, then took the spare out, put the spare under the sill with 2 bricks on it,yes still not perfect, but a lot more stable than a flimsy scissor jack.. i only had my leg under the car, but i still and always have sat the car on wheels either side, so it cannot psyhically go anywhere, i always check it cant move or drop before i put any part of my body underneath it, i know someone who had the front of a car jacked up, 3 steelies and a breezeblock under the front xmember and was tryna pull the engine out from underneath, it slipped, the car came down, the slam panel cut all four of his finger on his left hand clean off.. doing something on the cheap ALWAYS costs more in the long run..

R.I.P to your friend. I was changing the wheel on the wifes car ages ago now. I just put the wheel on and 2 nuts and the scissor jack slipped. It put a dent in the sill and a small dent in the door.
